X-Men: Days of Future Past premiered this past Saturday, May 10th, at the Javits Center in NYC and coming to theaters soon. Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, and Michael Fassbender are just a few of the several Hollywood sweethearts attending. This highly anticipated film is a superhero mash-up, combining the massive A-list casts from both X-Men and X-Men: First Class.
The storyline takes place in both the future and past of X-Men history. The future faces extinction and the X-Men team must go back in time to enlist help from their younger selves. Together they fight the government, robots, and free mutant kind. Given the time travel concept this movie will most likely be all over the place, but with so many storylines going on that’s hard to avoid. We can only wait and see how in-depth with X-Men past this movie will go. The concept opens a lot of doors to tie up loose ends and show how the great hero’s came to be.
Everyone knows Fox owns the rights to X-Men and that’s long been a controversial fact. It will always be disappointing that one of Marvel’s biggest comics is not longer in their studios hands, but they are still having plenty of success with The Avengers franchise. When you think of all the great stories Marvel has to work with perhaps losing a few is a good thing. Fox certainly has the funds and the resources. Plus they haven’t disappointed us with a X-Men film yet. Besides, Marvel now has plenty of time for its upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man; comics no one ever thought would get a movie adaptation. The clashing studios do face other complications, considering the Marvel universe loves to tie together. Both studios were debating over usage rights for character Quicksilver, expected to be making an appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers 2.
X-Men pioneer, Bryan Singer, directed the film and never fails to do an impressive job. X-Men: Apocalypse is already in post-production and is set to be released in 2016. Fox is also planning a Wolverine sequel directed by James Mangold, but we won’t be seeing that until 2017. Singer certainly seems to have a lot on his plate right now and is currently in the middle of a sexual molestation lawsuit. Michael Egan, a 31 Las Vegas resident, is accusing Singer and 2 other men of date raping him when he was 15. Egan lacks credibility and is being counter sued. Naturally Singer denies it all but the case is still pending in what will be a long and drawn out media frenzy. Personal life aside, Singer is a very talented director and has several production plans in the works.
Coming soon to theaters, the new X-Men: Days of Future Past movie is sure to be a blockbuster. Early reviews are already extremely positive and fans are excited for its May 23 release date. This highly anticipated action epic could possibly be one of the biggest movies this summer.
