Actor Meshach Taylor Passes Away at Age 67 From Cancer

Actor Meshach Taylor, who was probably best known for the role of Anthony Bouvier he played on the television hit show Designing Women, has passed away at the age of 67,  as reported by various media outlets on Sunday. He died on Saturday close to the city of Los Angeles, a city he was said to have loved dearly, after he had bravely fought cancer, according to his agent Dede Binder. She also stated that his family was with him up until the very end.

It was on Friday that family members of Taylor’s  put up on on his Facebook page that he had started to slip away. The post read that it was with love and gratitude that they were sorrowfully announcing that their darling, brilliant and dynamic Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend had started his grand transition.

Taylor’s portrayal of Anthony on the Designing Women comedy, which was on the air from the years 1986 to 1993 and starred Delta Burke, Annie Potts and the late Dixie Carter, earned him smashing reviews for his comic timing and hilarious demeanor as he was constantly going at it with four Southern women who worked as interior decorators. The role ended up earning him an Emmy-nomination.
He also played the very funny window dresser Hollywood Montrose in the 1987 film Mannequin, and also had a major role in the movie Damien: Omen II.  Other television shows he had made appearances in were The Incredible Hulk, ALF, Dave’s World, Buffalo Bill and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide which appeared on the children’s cable t.v. network Nickelodeon.

Taylor was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was the child of a sociology professor and a college professor. He attended college at Florida A&M University and graduated from there in 1993. He got married to Bianca Ferguson back in 1983 and they had four children together;  three daughters by the names of  Tamar Taylor, Esme Taylor and Yasmine Taylor and one son Tariq Taylor. Meshach also is survived by four grandchildren. 

Taylor had been in hospice care at his home and was surrounded by all his family at the time of his death. It was reported he passed away at 10:47 p.m., according to his son Tariq. Meshach had fought terminal cancer bravely but had began to fade markedly in recent days, numerous media sources reported.
