Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha collaborated for the fourth time in director A. R. Murugadoss’ recent venture, Holiday: A soldier is never off-duty and it is performing pretty well. Although Rowdy Rathore was a big success at the box office, the other two films in which Sonakshi and Akshay worked together, i.e. Joker, Boss and Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Doobara, did not perform well, and failed at the box office. This marked the previous year with disappointment and the spell was dry for Akshay Kumar. However all of that seems to be changing as the first release of Akshay for the year 2014 has been a bomb at the box office till the first weekend. Holiday was released on Friday, June 6.
Fans seem to be enjoying the new Akshay and Sonakshi starrer, as the film managed to cross the 40 crore mark, and is now targeting the 50 crore mark. The film grossed INR 12.18 crores on Friday, INR 12.34 crores on the next day, and on Sunday, the numbers escalated even more to INR 16.8 crores. This gives a total of INR 41.32 crores. It looks like that the Jodi has struck gold at the box office. Reports suggest that the film did good business on Monday as well. The total figure for the first four days stands at INR 49.34 crores, which means that the film grossed over INR 8 crores on Monday. Taran Adarsh, who is among the top trade analysts and film critics in India, says, that the film may gross over INR 65 crores by the end of the week, taking into account the falls in the rest of the week. So, it can be easily concluded that Holiday is performing well with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha as the lead actors.
There has been high speculation regarding what could be the final gross revenue of the film for the week. Box Office India says, that the film has the potential to do a daily business ranging between INR 7.5 crores to INR 7.75 crores. The film still has a few days of run left this week, which means that according to the calculation of Box Office India, the film will still be able to gross a little over INR 46.5 crores. With this rate of success, one might think that the film would easily enter the 100 crore club of Bollywood, and could possibly gross more than 150 crores net.
In this film, Akshay Kumar goes back to the style with which he first got recognition from–action stunts. This genre of film has always been good for Akshay, and there are a very few action films of Akshay which could not perform in the box office. But this movie seems to be one of the films which performed the best. Fans will witness a lot of action and stunts, and since it is Akshay Kumar we are talking about, it would not be too far-fetched to say that the action sequences will be damn good. British stuntman Greg Powell was hired to take care of all the stunts.
Despite the success of the film, it did not generate good reviews. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express says that the film is good as long as Akshay is in fighting mode, but the performance of the lead actor and the film starts to go downhill after Akshay starts romancing. Nevertheless, everyone has to wait to find out whether Holiday will perform well in the coming weeks with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha as its lead actors.
