Jill Duggar, the star of the reality the reality TV series 19 Kids and Counting, is now married to Derick Dillard. Their ceremony was held at the Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas on Saturday, June 21, with approximately 1,000 guests in attendance. The beautiful 23-year-old bride wore a white, A-line gown with capped sleeves and a modest v-neck. Her handsome groom wore a grey suit with a peach tone tie. Their getaway ride, parked outside the church was a pick-up truck decorated in white and teal for the occasion. The conservative couple had their first kiss at the altar right after they said I do!
The couple was engaged in late March after they had been dating for just a few short months, but the couple did not meet in a traditional way. Jill’s dad, Jim Duggar, was Dillard’s prayer partner while Dillard was in Nepal. After getting to know Dillard through numerous conversations and prayers together, Jim felt that the young boy would be a great companion to his daughter, as they seemed to have very similar values and goals in life. Dillard got in contact with Jill via emails and Skype and they hit it off. Jill mentions in her wedding website that the first time they talked; it lasted more than five hours.
It was a few months before the soon to be couple met one another. Jim and his daughter flew to Nepal in November, three months after Jill and Dillard had been communicating with one another. The young adults spent two weeks together in Nepal, but always keeping their conservative values in place. Before Jill and her dad went back to Arkansas, Dillard asked her if she wanted to start a formal courtship, which is a more conservative form of dating in the Duggar family, leading to marriage; Jill accepted.
It was 60 days before the couple was able to see one another again. Once the time for Dillard to come home was up, the whole Duggar family got together and went to the airport to meet the young man, which was shown in an episode of “19 Kids and Counting.” In this episode, the couple was so enthusiastic to see each other that they even broke one of their courtship rules by giving each other a front hug. Jim did not seem too happy about this incident as he called it a “mess-up” during the televised episode, but Jill’s mother, Michelle, was understanding about the excitement and love the young couple felt for one another. She explained that they had meant to do a side-hug, which is the only physical contact that couples are allowed to have during a courtship.
The couple did not date for long. Jill and Dillard were ready to say I do very soon after they started courting. Dillard asked Jim Duggar for his daughter’s hand in marriage in February, and the couple became engaged on March 29. Dillard proposed to Duggar during a walk after brunch in Bentoville, Arkansas. He tried to make the proposal as special as possible by hiring musicians for the event. Dillard presented Jill with a beautiful diamond ring, and she said yes. Only three months after their engagement, the now married couple seems as happy as ever, and Jill is excited to see what life has in store for them.
