Justin Bieber will no longer be bothering his Calabasas neighbors racing through the streets, having loud parties or playing pranks. The 20-year-old singer, in favor of new digs in Atlanta, sold his home to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, fetching a price of $7.2 million.
The sale may have some residents of the West San Fernando Valley town relieved, since it means the pop star will officially be gone. Bieber wrought havoc in the neighborhood. Last year he had a run in with former neighbor, Keyshawn Johnson, after speeding through the streets while the retired NFL player’s toddlers played outside.
Earlier this year, Bieber allegedly egged a neighbor’s house causing about $20,000 in damages. The deputy district attorney assigned to the case wanted to charge the Boyfriend singer with felony vandalism, but the DA’s office was unsure how to proceed, leaving it up in the air.
Shortly after the egging incident, Bieber was arrested in Miami for driving under the influence while drag racing. He was also charged with resisting arrest and driving with an expired license. Bieber’s blood alcohol level was .04, which under Florida law would not have made him a drunk driver, but the singer was only 19 at the time, which called for an immediate license suspension. The trial is set for next month.
More recently, Bieber drew more negative attention when a five-year-old video of him telling a joke using the N-word surfaced on Sunday. Bieber immediately issued an apology: “As a young man, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt,” he said. “I thought it was OK to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance.” Following his apology, a fresh video came to light. This time, the singer changes the words to his song One Less Lonely Girl, replacing the word “girl” with the “N-word,” and singing about killing black people and joining the Ku Klux Klan.
The troubled singer made a profit from the sale of the home in the exclusive community that he allegedly terrorized, which previously belonged to a different reality TV star. Bieber bought it just two years ago for $6.5 million, therefore making a $700 thousand return on the Calabasas home when he sold it for $7.2M to Khloe Kardashian.
Bieber’s former neighbors might feel like they lucked out in getting Kardashian as a neighbor. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star sold her Tarzana home, which she shared with soon-to-be ex-husband Lamar Odom, to The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco for $5.6M.
The purchase puts Kardashian closer to oldest sister Kourtney, who purchased Keyshawn Johnson’s home last month. The youngest of the Kardashian sisters has had her fair share of media coverage over the last year. She and Odom battled fertility issues on the reality show, while she also endured criticism about her weight. In addition, last year Odom struggled over drug addiction rumors.
Kardashian and Odom separated during his drug scandal, after she reportedly tried to help the NBA player through his addiction. After a meeting in October went awry when Kardashian found a pipe and what she said “looked like crack in a baggie,” she finally called it quits. In December, she filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Since filing, Kardashian has been dating rapper French Montana.
The $7.2M acquisition is another step in Kardashian’s process of moving on from Odom, and a step toward starting anew for Bieber. With any luck, both Bieber and Kardashian will have better outcomes in their new surroundings.
