Kim Kardashian is the center of more controversy after making the decision to get her daughter North’s ears pierced, and it has led to a number of people questioning whether this was right. Many people have argued that piercing the ears is painful, and something that a one-year-old would not be able to comprehend. They believe the reality show star is just doing it for more attention.
However, she is not the first and will certainly not be the last star to have her child’s ears pierced. Plenty have done it in the past, and have received the same complaints and criticisms for the decision. At the same time, many parents have supported the decisions because non-celebrities do it too.
Some parents do rightfully speak out about the decision because the one-year-old has not had a say herself. They would have liked Kardashian to wait for a few years so her daughter could make the decision. While the jewelry can be removed and holes can close up, there will always be a mark there to remind the child that her mother chose to do this.
There have been plenty of others supporting the 33-year-old’s decision, stating that they were babies when they had their ears pierced. They claim that it is not a big deal, and her daughter will not have to go through the pain in the future. She is likely to forget all about it, as most children do.
The question is whether it was right or not for Kardashian to get daughter North’s ears pierced. There is no medical reason to wait, as long as the place that the piercings were done was reputable and safe. This would not have been an issue for someone like the recently wed reality TV show star, but could be an issue for other parents. It is important to research any place someone considers having this type of work, as infections are possible. The studio must have the correct equipment for any type of piercing and for customers of any age.
There are debates over the reasons for getting a baby’s ears pierced. For Kardashian it would certainly seem like a fashion statement, but that is not the case for all parents who choose to do this. For example, Latina moms often do it because it is a cultural thing. There are some cultures that see baby girls leave the hospital with their ears pierced, because it is just part of their history. It has nothing to do with vanity.
Some mothers do argue that even if it is a cultural thing to do, there is no medical benefit. With that in mind, there is no need to inflict pain on a child. They would like to leave it for a child to decide when she is older and able to make her own decisions.
North West is not going to be the last baby to have her ears pierced before she is old enough to decide for herself, but this is likely going to be an ongoing debate. Parents will constantly question whether Kardashian was right to have her daughter North’s ears pierced or not.
