Mortal Kombat X has been officially announced. The game will launch in 2015 on different platforms such as PS3, PS4, Xbox One, 360 and PC. Ed Boon, the co-creator of the beloved fighting series, announced its official release after Amazon UK accidentally revealed the title. Ed Boon also reportedly posted a reveal via Twitter. In 2011, a rehash of the original Mortal Kombat was released for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Playstation’s Vita; it was more cinematic and appealed to cross generations. That was the last time fans saw a launch of the franchise series on major platforms.
The Chicago-based studio, NetherRealm Studios, is most likely the game’s developer. The most recent game released by them for a console was in 2013, with Injustice: Gods Among Us. It is a fighter game featuring DC superheroes with Mortal Kombat fighting style. With E3 just around the corner, only a week away, there is sure to be a number of leaks and reveals to keep fans of the gaming world in gasps. Another leak made public this week was Kaos Studios Homefront: the Revolution, which will also be released in 2015. A Swedish retailer exposed the game information when he was not supposed to. Its co-publishers Crytek and Deep Silver initially developed the game for THQ but decided to buy the franchise to save their work. The game will be available for Xbox One, PC and PS4.
Microsoft planned the reveal of a new game for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 with their announcement of Forza Horizon 2. The release date is set for the fall of this year. The racing sequel to the original Forza will be reportedly set in Southern Europe.
The original Mortal Kombat sent waves of non-gamers to smash the control buttons frantically with the hope of the reward of seeing the now immortal words “Finish Him” etched across the screen. The 2011 reboot gave the next generation of gamers a taste of the beloved fighting game that kept them longing for more. The newly announced Mortal Kombat X was the hope for many fans of the fighting game. The trailer for the video game was released along with the official announcement. It reportedly shows two new moves in a fight between the game’s two most popular characters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
The newly leaked, now officially announced release of Mortal Kombat X and the two above-mentioned games, leaves gaming fans in wonder as to what E3 will hold in store. It is not yet known if there will be playable content for Mortal Kombat X during E3. Big game reveals are usually held tight until E3, the gaming industries moment to let gamers know what upcoming game titles they can expect throughout the year. In the age of the internet, leaks turned announcements are nothing new to a world fueled by technology. Although E3 is not open to the public, official game announcements is every gamers long awaited Christmas, that is until someone lets the cat out of the bag a little too soon.
