The Oldest Man in The World Has Passed Away at Age 111

The oldest man in the world, Dr. Alexander Imich, has passed away at the age of 111. He had lived in the United States since the 1950’s. Dr. Imich died on Sunday, stated his niece, Karen Bogen. She had just visited him on Saturday along with many of his friends. The elderly man had declared his longevity was due to having good genes, eating right, exercising and not having any children. The retired doctor’s wife passed away in 1986 and that was when he moved to New York City from his home in Connecticut.

Michael Mannion, who was a longtime friend of Alexander, stated that Imich’s huge curiosity of life and ability to turn even pronounced adversity into something positive were also significant factors in his long life. These qualities were apparent even in his last weeks and days.

When Dr. Imich was age 93, he had enrolled at a college that taught about healing techniques. It was a school that offered programs over self-awareness and hands-on healing because he was interested in learning more about love, explained Mannion. Imich even wrote about the work of a Polish medium with the name Matylda in his book Incredible Tales of the Paranormal, which he had published a year earlier in 1995 when he was age 92.

Alexander was born on February 3, 1903 in a town in Poland that was then a part of Russia. When he was asked how he had made it so long, he stated that he did not know but that it just happened. He and his wife Wela arrived in the United States in the early 1950’s and they lived in Connecticut. He moved to New York after she died.

He had started to require around-the-clock care in the last month or so and declined rapidly in the last two weeks, unable to recognize anyone around him. This could have been brought on by a fall he suffered around three or four months ago. He fell ill after he took the sudden tumble. His friends explained that he started tiring much more easily after that event and he never was the same.

Guinness World Records had awarded Dr. Imich the title of oldest man back on May 8 of this year. The group is now looking into the claim that Sakari Momoi, also age 111, of Japan is the world’s oldest living male. The world’s oldest person, which is a female, is also from Japan. Her name is Misao Okawa and she is age 116.
