Tracy Morgan More Responsive Following New Jersey Car Wreck

Tracy Morgan, who received multiple serious injuries after the limo bus he was traveling in this past Saturday was involved in an multi-vehicle accident, “has been more responsive today,” according to one of his reps. He still “remains in critical condition,” however. The accident resulted in the death of one of his comedian friends, who was also in the same vehicle as Morgan.

According to his rep, Lewis Kay, Tracy Morgan, 45, sustained multiple injuries, including a broken femur, broken nose, “and several broken ribs.” On Sunday, Morgan had surgery on his broken leg. His rep added that the comedian and SNL and 30 Rock alumni will “remain in the hospital for several weeks.”

The tragic accident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike early on Saturday morning. Besides Tracy Morgan’s injuries and the death of one of his comedian friends, James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, two other people in the Mercedes limo bus were critically injured. They were comedian Ardie Fuqua Jr., 43, of Jersey City, as well as Tracy Morgan’s assistant, Jeffrey Millea, 36, of Shelton, Connecticut. They are receiving medical treatment at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

They were returning to New York City, where Tracy Morgan lives, from a stand-up comedy show at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware. A Wal-Mart truck driver from Georgia, who allegedly failed to slow for traffic ahead of him and then swerved to avoid traffic in front of him, instead ended up crashing into the back of the chauffeured limo bus they were riding in.

The truck driver, 35-year-old Kevin Roper, has been charged with both vehicular manslaughter and also four counts of vehicular assault, but he was released on a $50,000 bail. Roper has been placed on administrative leave by Wal-Mart, according to Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar.

Tracy Morgan’s family rushed to the hospital to be by the comedian’s side in the aftermath of the wreck. Also, several celebrities like Joan Rivers and Chris Rock and many of Morgan’s fans have posted messages of prayers, support, and encouragement to him. Morgan’s rep stated that his family was “overwhelmed and appreciative” of all the “love and support from his fans.”

Tyrone Gale, the driver of the limo bus, reported to ABC News that after the vehicle was struck and flipped over, he felt disoriented, and heard Tracy Morgan calling for help. He stated that he “climbed up on the body of the limo,” bu that he “couldn’t reach them.”

Tyrone Gale, who was driving the limo bus, told ABC News that he was disoriented after the vehicle flipped over and could hear Morgan yelling for help. Six vehicles, in all, were involved in the huge wreck, but there have not been any reports of anyone from the other vehicles being injured.

McNair, who was 62 at the time of his passing in the multi-vehicle accident, had been a close friend of Morgan’s and had also been a mentor to him, especially when Tracy Morgan was just starting out as a comedian. The ex-wife of Tracy Morgan, Sabine Morgan, stated to the New York Daily News that “They were very close.”

While comedian Tracy Morgan remains in critical condition in a hospital in New Jersey following the multi-vehicle accident that claimed the life of one of his comedian friends, the encouraging news is that he’s been “more responsive today,” according to his rep, Lewis Kay. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several more weeks, as he recovers from his numerous injuries and broken bones.
