Just one episode into the final season of True Blood, and a major character has already been killed off, to the disappointment of many fans. HBO’s popular show returned last night for its seventh season, which will be its last. The first episode was filled with everything fans have come to love about the show: bloodbaths, vampires, murders, and terrified humans.
Warning, do not read anymore unless you want to know major spoilers. Last night, True Blood killed a major character that has been with the show since the very first season. Tara, who was played by Rutina Wesley, died her final death as a vampire as she was trying to save her mother from the Hep-V-infected vampires. Fans were shocked that it was Tara who was killed off the show.
This season also introduces a new set of problems, in the form of anti-vampire raiders. Vampire Bill Compton, played by Stephan Moyer, and sheriff Andy Bellefleur, played by Chris Bauer, try to stop invaders as they try to break into the basement of the vampire bar Fangtasia. Also in the episode was Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin, who was dealing with all hell breaking loose in Bon Temps, and her ability to read minds. Eric Nothman, played by Alexander Skarsgard, might be dead, after fans last saw him bursting into flames on top of a mountain in Sweden. Vampire Pam Ravenscroft, played by Kristin Bauer van Straten, is in Morocco, trying to find her maker, Eric.
However, with all the excitement of new plots and storylines introduced in season seven, fans are still upset that Tara was killed off. Tara was sassy and angry, and many fans thought that becoming a vampire was the best thing that happened in her sad life. Other fans were upset that Tara’s mother was the one to be with her when she died, since the two had a strained and generally horrible relationship. Fans wanted to see Sookie or Pam with Tara during her last moments, before she became vampire goo.
Even though True Blood killed off the character of Tara, they may be leaving an opening for Tara to come back. Tara’s mother, Lattie Mae insinuates in a premonition that Tara might still be alive. But before fans get too excited, Wesley confirmed herself that Tara is really, truly dead.
However, Wesley was not sad to see her character killed off. Wesley said in a recent interview that would not be True Blood unless someone died in the final season. The actress, who played Tara, goes on to say that she loved her journey on the show, and she was happy she got to the fight scene.
The rest of the cast of True Blood was sad to see the character of Tara killed. Wesley said that many people cried during the table read, especially Adina Porter. Wesley said the saddest part was hearing Lattie Mae say her baby girl was dead. The cast also applauded to say goodbye to Tara’s character and give her a good send off, just like they did last season with Terry Bellefleur.
