The Wayans brothers have an abundance of talent and it seems that this year they will be sharing their comedic knowledge by mentoring two sets of hopeful comics. Marlon and Keenan Ivory are each on two separate shows where the jokes and jokesters are the stars of the show, and everyone is competing to become the winner of one of these reality competition shows. Marlon Wayans is the mastermind of Funniest Wins as he helps guide the hopefuls through the challenges of becoming crowned ‘The Funniest’.
The celebrity mentor is Orlando Jones who shares some of his style, and stories, and works with the top 10 contestants. Those competing range from a Social Media phenom and pranksters, to a Renaissance woman. Meaning she used to dress up to work at the Renaissance fairs. TBS just premiered Marlon’s newest comedy competition and the hopefuls were put right to work, performing comedic acts on a moving tour bus. Not as easy as it sounds, but with Marlons help the 10 competitors, pictured below, do a stand up job. Even though this is a new show, it promises to be big competition to brother Keenan’s already established comedy competition. Some good old sibling rivalry promises to only enhance both series.
In contrast to his brothers new show, Keenan Ivory Wayans is a judge on The Last Comic Standing, which held its first competition back in 2003, and is back for its eighth season. The show took a brief hiatus after its seventh season in 2010, but is back with a vengeance. Keenan is joined by Roseanne Barr and Russell Peters, a Canadian Comedian, to round out the three judge panel. The established NBC show has a number of clever tricks up their sleeves for the contestants, and the upcoming show on Sunday June 29, is no exception. The two-hour special will have highlights from performances from a variety of comedians, fan favorites, interviews and some outstanding behind the scenes shots. Viewers will get personal insight into the minds of the eight remaining comedians and where they draw their material from. On the June 26 show, the remaining hopefuls will have Cheryl Hines as the first in a series of mentors, and each remaining show will have a special guest mentor to guide the comedians, along with the advice and on the spot critiques of the three judges.
Fans will ultimately decide which Wayan brother has the funniest and most successful show. Viewers really cannot go wrong with either of the brothers, and their comedic genius will certainly help propel these hopeful candidates to comedy royalty. A Comedian is lucky to have the mentors these two shows provide, and the fans will win either way, as now TV will have two new funny people to follow into the future. The video below is from Last Comic Standing contestant Alingon Mitra, who has a unique way of presenting himself and his stand up act. His Harvard education does not hurt either, and becomes a part of the act when Kennan Ivory Wayans lets it out that he is a graduate of the prestigious school.
