According to CNN, a U.S. medical charter flight headed to Liberia has departed from Cartersville, Georgia for the purpose of evacuating two American charity workers who have been infected with the Ebola virus. The two American workers, Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol were infected with the virus while caring for others who were ill and it appears that their medical conditions have taken a turn for the worse. Information as to when they will arrive back in the U.S. is currently not available.
The current Ebola virus outbreak in Western African nations is considered to be the worst in history and there is no known cure for the illness.
UPDATE: Reports indicate that the medical charter flight can only accommodate one patient at a time. Only one medical worker will be transported back to the U.S. on this initial flight. The identity of the first patient has not been released.
