Superman will have a costume redesign for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed sequel due out on May 16, 2016. Previously, a lot of media focus had been on Batman’s new costume and how Ben Affleck will look in the role of the Caped Crusader; but, with the unveiling by Warner Brothers of Supe’s new costume, media attention has shifted its focus, at least for now, to the garb of Affleck’s co-star, Henry Cavill (Superman/Clark Kent).
The new look and costume of Superman is not much different from how Supe’s costume looked in Man of Steel, but there is at least one difference. Many fans suggested, for example, that the revised costume should look more like the one Superman wears in comic books, though without the red shorts. These fans complained that there was too much blue that was unbroken in Superman’s costume. The redesign took the comments of these fans into account, which resulted in a yellow belt being added to the costume to take the place of what had been a small red oval on Supe’s abdomen on the Man of Steel version of his costume.
In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Superman will journey to Batman’s Gotham City as a part of the plot line. He is perhaps in Gotham City in the photo that Warner Brothers has released showing off the Man of Steel’s revised costume. The photo shows Superman standing in rain, much like the rain falling on Batman in a similar photo the studio released of him.
Perhaps in future stills that Warner Brothers releases, the photos will show Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) also standing in rain falling in Gotham City. However, the script might have the superheroes who eventually form the Justice League meeting up somewhere else, like possibly Metropolis.
More good news for fans of Superman is that, according to comments director Zack Synder made in an interview with USA Today, the Man of Steel is not going to be put on a back burner in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The movie will go into how Superman is continuing to adapt to our planet, more about Clark Kent’s private life and friendships that he establishes, as well as addressing how Supes meets the other future Justice League-to-be superheroes like Cyborg, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Also, Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg) and the other villains in the movie will give the superheroes all the challenges that they can handle.
According to Zack Snyder in the USA Today interview, he had not originally planned to have Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel. The way Snyder put the decision to include Batman is that “it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.”
Snyder realizes that he is making history by including both Superman and Batman in one movie. Both of these iconic DC superheroes appearing in the same movie has “never really been done,” he said, adding that it is “kinda cool.”
Of course, Zack Snyder is also making history by also including other superheroes in the movie, like Aquaman, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman, making the flick into an origin story about the origins of the Justice League.
There will reportedly be a series of Justice League movies that will follow, at least if Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice proves to be a box office success. The movies will presumably be an answer to Marvel’s extremely popular Avengers movies.
Fans are already eagerly anticipating the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on May 16, 2016. Any news that DC Comics or Warner Brothers announces about the movie is poured over with intense interest by Superman and Batman fans. It is little wonder that the photo Warner Brothers released depicting Superman wearing a different version of his Man of Steel costume has also caught the attention of superhero fans everywhere.
