The pastor of Beyoncé defended her against critics within the Christian community. Beyoncé was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas before she became famous and still considers herself a part this church family. Pastor Rudy Rasmus said the singer has made a great impact within his ministry because of her incredibly generous heart.
Rasmus is still very close the Knowles family and was the Officiate of Jay Z and Beyoncé’s 2008 wedding. When questioned about the rumors surrounding the couple’s marital issues along with the elevator drama of Jay and Solange, the pastor said he pays the rumors no attention and chooses to validate his information with a conversation with the individual.
The pastor has rendered his opinion many times as it relates to Beyoncé’s lifestyle and the message behind her music. Many Christians have scrutinized this singer’s style of dress, videos and explicit lyrics stating that she blatantly contradicts the purity of Christianity with her choices. His answer is simple and remains the same,
Beyoncé is a consummate entertainer, and an entertainer entertains. Is the entertainer’s entertainment an expression of that person’s life and reality? I don’t know.
Pastor Rasmus went on the say no one questions Arnold Schwarzenegger when blows up planes in the sky using a 30 caliber cannon. He has never heard anyone question what kind of person he is when is walking around for 90 minutes in that suit with the 30 caliber cannon. At the end of the day, Arnold Schwarzenegger is an entertainer and his job is to entertain.
Rasmus said Beyoncé is a tremendously gifted person and the world would be void of an extreme talent if she was silenced or censored. The pastor also noted that she has a right to earn a living through her talents and regardless of what others think about her Beyoncé has made a serious impact within his ministry because of her incredible heart.
I am glad she is a friend of mine. She is an incredible human being. Has an incredible heart and has been extremely helpful in our mission and our ministry here. She has a global platform and is doing some amazing work.
Diana Hobbs, Christian author and blogger, disagrees strongly with Rasmas. She said unfortunately the pastor’s ideology leaves out accountability to God while ignoring the call to honor central biblical virtues like modesty and not glorifying the flesh. Hobbs said,
Since when did creativity for a Christian trump honoring the Creator? I cannot imagine God on his throne applauding or supporting all His word goes against.
Beyoncé and her family continuously donate millions to her church to help those that are homeless and feed the poor. In addition the singer’s $7 million dollar housing complex provides housing for 42 families. As long as Mrs. Carter desires she will be considered a part of his church’s extended family.
Rasmus says his church, which is nearly a 10,000 member congregation, has always embraced the vision of unconditional acceptance and love. This is a message Beyoncé learned at an early age while attending the church and singing in their choir. At St. John’s United Methodist Church there are literally no boundaries or borders that determine whether or not a person can be a part of their extended family.
Pastor Rudy Rasmus continues to defend Beyoncé against critics within the Christian community. The multi-Grammy Award winning artist grew up singing at his church. At that time she had long braids and wore jeans and sneakers. Even after becoming famous Beyoncé still considers herself a part this church family and continuously impact the ministry because of her incredibly generous heart.
