Bobbi Kristina issued an apology for going on a Twitter rant after Angela Bassett refused to cast her in the upcoming biopic about her mother, the late Whitney Houston. Bobbi Kristina said she wanted to be cast as the main character, her mother, and Bassett refused. The actress said she never considered casting the late singer’s daughter for the role because she is not an actress.
Houston’s biopic, directed by actress Bassett, is coming to the small screen next year. Lifetime is releasing a film based on the life of the 48-year-old recording star and actress who died in 2012. There have been reports that Houston’s key family members are not thrilled about it. They feel it does not give the superstar the justice she deserves.
The late singer’s manager and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, said, “Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie and if she were here today this would not be happening.” Bobbi Kris took to Twitter to share her feelings on the upcoming biopic and to express her interest in the leading role.
I don’t know how to feel, this so-called ‘film’ isn’t in my positive thoughts. That’s MY mother, what makes YOU think that’s ok with me? If Anyone would or should EVER play my mother & tell OUR story, we’ve talked MANY times & one & ONLY person she approved of is ME. Understand that.
The singer’s daughter said she understood people wanting to connect with her mom’s story but went back to Twitter to finish explaining her position:
TRULY understand people want 2 love & honor #HERSTORY the way they think should be told – But simply out of respect, All I ask isn’t mucho lol.
When Bassett was asked why she did not cast Bobbi Kristina in the film she said there are a number of reasons the 21-year-old was not considered. One being she is not an actress. Bassett acknowledged that Bobbi Kristina has acted here and there as well as on their family’s reality show but acting is a craft and she is not an actress. Bassett went on to say she needed to cast an experienced actress due to the strict shooting schedule.
It’s an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It’s more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story— there’s a technical aspect.
After Bobbi Kris caught wind of Bassett’s comments about her, as is her pattern, she went on a public Twitter rant. She called the actress a male and a few expletives. Bobbi Kris also said when she receives her first Grammy or Oscar, whichever comes first she will be sure to shout out Bassett; of course she used an expletive instead of the Bassett’s name.
The late singer’s daughter has since apologized for her Twitter rant against the award-winning actress.
I’m a young woman who can admit her wrongs. 4 who was offended I apologize BUT understand me before your quick to judge though; Your Choices & Decisions are the ONLY things you have to YOURSELF in life & You won’t know how important those things are until they’re taken.
Bassett has not responded to any other comments made by Bobbi Kris, instead she returned her focus to the Whitney Houston Biopic and said she has such a regard for the amazing talents and accomplishments of both Whitney and Bobby.
Their humanity and bond has fascinated us all. I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.
Upon learning of the upcoming biopic depicting the life of her mother, Bobbi Kris, expressed her desire to play the infamous Whitney Houston. After she was refused the youngster went off on a Twitter rant. After realizing her error she returned to Twitter to apologize to Angela Bassett and anyone else who was offended.
