BBC America released a new trailer for the upcoming eighth season of Doctor Who. The riveting new trailer is available in the player below. The new video hits the web as the premiere of the eighth season of the updated Doctor Who series draws closer. The sci-fi show returns to the airwaves in just a few short weeks in August.
The new eighth season trailer for Doctor Who features a lot of intriguing imagery. The trailer begins with voice-over narration by a member of the Dalek race. The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) talks about correcting his mistakes. That is a pretty long list for the Time Lord who has lived for over 2,000 years, so it will be interesting to see what mistakes he plans to rectify. Among the more harrowing images in the trailer are the explosion of the control console of the TARDIS and the interior of the ship being engulfed in flames. It does not appear that the new season will be doing any favors for the Doctor’s faithful time machine and interstellar vehicle.
The trailer also features a cavalcade of shots of various alien species, both new and familiar. The Doctor appears to suffer from self-doubt as he asks Clara if he is a good man. Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and Strax (Dan Starkey) of the Paternoster gang are also in the trailer.
On top of the show’s premiere next month, BBCA also announced the Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show at 7:30PM ET to precede the debut. The premiere will be followed by Doctor Who: After Who Live at 11:00PM ET. Comedian and Doctor Who fan Chris Hardwick will host both shows. The programs will feature in-studio guests and behind-the-scenes footage.
Per BBCA, the season premiere Doctor Who episode, “Deep Breath,” will clock in at a feature length. The episode will take the Doctor and his faithful companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), on an adventure through Victorian London. The episode is directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Steven Moffat. The Doctor’s old allies, Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) and Strax (Dan Starkey), are also confirmed to appear in the episode. It will be great to see the the Paternoster Gang together again after the group last appeared in “The Name of the Doctor.” In that episode, both Jenny Flint and Strax appeared to suffer grim fates, which were later undone by Clara. However, the episode ended rather abruptly, and the Paternoster Gang has not been seen since that aforementioned episode.
On top of the TV programming for Doctor Who’s premiere, Fathom Events will hold two days of screenings of “Deep Breath” in select movie theaters across the United States. The special presentation will include 15 additional minutes of bonus content. The screenings will run from August 23 to August 25. On August 25, the event will expand to 550 select movie theaters around the country for two special showings at 7:00PM and 9:30PM in local time.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy an exciting new trailer for Doctor Who in its eighth season before the show’s ultimate return in just over three weeks. Doctor Who’s season eight premiere episode, “Deep Breath,” will air on Saturday, August 23 on BBC America at 8PM ET.
