Female Passenger Dies on US Airways Flight

Police authorities in Arizona have stated that a female passenger died while on a US Airways flight going to Phoenix from Honolulu after she suffered an unknown medical emergency. Investigators have identified the woman as being Terrie Wu, age 58, declared Phoenix Police Sergeant Trent Crump

Reports said that Wu fell unconscious while the jet was in the air. She reportedly did not have any pulse and was declared deceased by responders after the aircraft arrived at a Phoenix airport. It was said she passed out sometime during the long flight.

A medical emergency was stated by the pilot as the plane came near the Phoenix airport. The airport was notified of the emergency during the descent of the flight. The Phoenix Fire Department was called and they were on scene as the jet landed.

Wu was on board with an unnamed relative and is thought to have possibly died about an hour before the plane landed. Police investigators think that Wu was ill and passed away from natural causes, but a Medical Examiner’s report will be needed to reveal the cause.

An American Airlines spokesperson explained that the US Airways Flight was #693, and the plane was a Boeing 757 aircraft. It had taken off from Honolulu on Tuesday night and arrived in Phoenix not long after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. US Airways is now considered to be a part of American Airlines as the two airlines continue with a merger.

Wu did not have any sign of a pulse and was declared dead by a group of first responders that met up with the plane when it landed in Phoenix. The incident happened on a flight that was considered an overnight red-eye flight.

Captain Mark Vanacore, who is a spokesperson for the Phoenix Fire Department, told the media that the passenger did indeed have some kind of medical emergency but did not identify any cause of death.

Even though they are rare, several in-flight deaths happen on commercial airline flights every year.
