Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan laid a smackdown on a suspected burglar who was attempting to steal from the wrestling star. Two suspects were inside the wrestler’s Phoenix, Arizona residence when Bryan, whose real name is Bryan Danielson, and his wife, former WWE Diva Brie Bella, arrived home. The wrestling couple saw the front door of their home open and that is when an impromptu wrestling match took place.
Bryan and his wife, concerned over the safety of their dog, ran into their home to find the pair of alleged robbers running out the back door. The former champ took off after the pair and was able to catch up to Cesar Sosa. After catching up to the 22-year old Sosa, the grappler placed the accused into a rear naked choke hold.
Neighbors of the former champ noticed something odd going on at the wrestler’s home and called 9-1-1 approximately 10-minutes prior to Bryan and his wife returning home. With Sosa easily subdued, Bryan was able to detain the one suspect until police arrived on the scene. After being taken into custody by police, Sosa was booked on suspicion of burglary and already was facing an outstanding felony warrant charging him with burglary and kidnapping.
Unfortunately, the former WWE champion, who until suffering an injury was a regular on Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, was only able to stop one of the suspected burglars. The second suspect, who has not been identified, avoided a handicap tag-team match with the former wrestling champ and escaped from Bryan while his partner tangled with the injured WWE superstar. While Bryan was stopping one of the intruders, Brie found the couple’s dog, Josie, unharmed and hiding in the bathroom.
Bryan, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and tips the scales at 210 pounds, is recovering from surgery to remove bone spurs from the wrestlers spinal cord. The injury has left the star’s right arm about half as strong as his left arm. Doctor’s for the WWE have notified Bryan that a second surgery will be needed in order to correct a double crush to a nerve in his neck that may be the cause of the right arm weakness. During the break-in, Bryan did not consider his injury when taking off after the two alleged burglars, however, after the grappler took down one of the suspects, he was more concerned that the man that he held in a choke hold might sue him.
Bryan has stepped away from wrestling to recover from the needed neck surgery. Whether the former WWE champ will be able to return to the squared circle and lay a smackdown on other wrestlers, instead of would be thieves, in the future will depend on a successful second surgery to repair the nerve. Bryan’s popularity has skyrocketed with wrestling fans over the last couple years and while the superstar has been away from the ring, chant of “Yes!” rock most WWE events each night. The “Yes!” chants refer to Bryan’s finishing move in the ring, the Yes! lock, which the wrestler did not put Sosa in during the altercation.
