J.K. Rowling has written another Harry Potter story, which is exciting news for fans. For those who are waiting to see a novel set in the future of the wizarding world, they will be disappointed. The story is written in the form of a column and available on the author’s fansite dedicated to the wizard.
The good news for fans is that the column is written about all three of the main characters, and by a fan favorite Rite Skeeter. It is all centered around the Quidditch World Cup, which is fitting considering the Soccer World Cup is happening in the real world at the moment.
A lot of the focus in the column is on how the three main characters have aged and progressed in their careers, rather than on the World Cup. It will be a joy for die-hard fans, who love to delve into the future. The character of Skeeter has not really changed either, who continues to look down on the only witch in the trio, Hermione Granger. It seems to be the green-eyed monster coming out considering the only female in the group is proving that it is possible to have an amazing and successful career while raising two children. During the column it is mentioned that Hermione and Ron have a boy and girl, Hugo and Rose.
There is a mention about Harry Potter’s two boys, Albus and James, but very little is said. It seems like Skeeter is looking for cracks within the relationships, especially when it comes to the Boy Who Lived. As Rowling writes another Harry Potter story, she cannot help but have Skeeter comment on Ginny not being with the family.
Most fans will know that Ginny is now a reporter, and has been sharing updates about the Quidditch World Cup. There have been a few smaller updates from Rowling in regards to this part of the fantasy world. However, Skeeter views it as cracks showing between husband and wife. Many fans will view the speculations in the same way as those who report on celebrity breakups in real life.
Ron does not escape Skeeter’s personal attacks either. Rather than focus on the marriage, she focuses on Ron’s mental health and employment. As Ron has moved from the Ministry of Magic and gone to work with his older brother at the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, Skeeter cannot help herself but question whether it has something to do with the Horcruxes. Fans will remember the difficult time Ron had with the Horcruxes and how it almost destroyed his relationships with Harry and Hermione.
Based on the writing, it seems like Rowling is really attacking real life journalists who report in similar fashions. She previously won a court case against a photographer who snapped a photograph of her son, and clearly dislikes the gossip columns. However, she certainly has fun in creating these columns for her fans on the websites and sharing more stories into the world of Harry Potter. This is certainly not going to be the last, and Rowling is likely to write other Harry Potter stories like this in the future to keep her fans happy.
