Maine Family of Five Discovered Shot to Death

In Maine, a family of five were discovered shot to death in their apartment building on Sunday. Maine State Police stated that a gun was also found in the dwelling and it looked as if someone in the family was possibly accountable for all the shootings. A state police spokesperson explained that official causes of death would have to be released by a Maine medical examiner. Officials said the bodies would be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Augusta sometime in the overnight hours, where they would be autopsied on Monday.

Investigators stated that the three children were believed to have ranged in ages from 4 to 12 years. Their parents were somewhere in their 30’s. It was reported that a friend of the family allegedly asked a maintenance worker at the apartment complex to look in on the family and check on their well-being. The worker happened to notice that there was a dead body inside the apartment and rushed to dial up the police.

The Maine State Police spokesperson added that the family was discovered Sunday afternoon inside their second-floor apartment which was located at the Riverview Apartment Complex in the town of Saco. The bodies were discovered by the apartment worker around 1:25 p.m.

The bodies, including those of the three children, were discovered in three different rooms of the dwelling. The gun was found lying right beside one of the bodies, and so Maine State Police believe that no one outside anyone the family was accountable for the murders. The police spokesperson refused to say which family member that police think is responsible for shooting all the others.

Investigators also did not release any of the identities of the dead family members. Their identities will not be released before the next of kin were notified. The police stated that there was no one else involved in this from outside the family. The medical examiner’s office dispatched investigators to the scene on Sunday afternoon, where they joined up with evidence technicians who worked with the Maine State Police and Saco detectives. The examination is being headed by both the Saco Police Department and also Maine State Police.

The town of Saco has a population of around 18,000 people and is located in the southern part of the state. It is about 10 miles to the southwest of Portland, Maine.
