Do you love Adventure Time? Wish they would make a new game already and replace Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don’t Know! Rejoyce because such a game is currently in development. Known as Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom, this title will be arriving on 3DS, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this Fall.
For those unfamiliar, Adventure Time is a (kids?) show on Cartoon Network. The show is currently on its sixth season and still going strong. If you enjoy old school games, humor, and magical dogs you have probably already been following this show for some time. The series already has a number of games on main systems as well as a number of games on iOS systems, such as Fionna Fights, Jumping Finn Turbo, and Ski Safari: Adventure Time. They even created a MOBA similar to League of Legends called Adventure Time: Battle Party.
It needs to be noted that previous Adventure Time games haven’t set the bar very high, each game is neat, but not the expansive imaginative world that the show is. The first game for example, Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?! followed a formula similar to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The game was pretty fun, but didn’t give the player enough sidequests or insight into what was going on outside of the primary quest. This new journey takes our heroes into the Nameless Kingdom and looks like fun so far; here is the trailer.
The resemblance between the Nameless Kingdom and old Zelda titles is obvious, but is it a bad thing? Adventure Time already tried mimicking more forgotten Zelda games, maybe it is better they stick to the stronger series style. More recently, Nintendo has been experimenting with the Zelda formula, which isn’t bad either. Here is the newest compilation of characters in the still in development, Hyrule Warriors.
What about the new Zelda game shown at E3? In an attempt to bring old school Zelda roots into an expansive 3D world they have created a something quite unlike past iterations. The potential looks monumental.
With the actual Zelda series trying such new ideas, having a different series create something inspired by older Zelda games could be just what Adventure Time needs to scratch that video game itch. Until now, each Adventure Time game has been neat, but not enough to really satisfy hardcore fans or gamers. Finn and Jake look right at home in this top-down dungeon setting, after all it has temples, monsters, and princesses.
Prepare yourself because Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom It will be coming to 3DS, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. A specific date has not been announced yet, but the trailer says Fall 2014. The game will feature all actual voice actors as their respective characters. This genre of game feels fitting for Adventure Time, hopefully they don’t drop the ball again.
