Even though the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign ends on July 2nd, the campaign is adding more rewards to hit the goal of $5 million. This happens on the heels of Seth MacFarlane vowing to match the next $1 million raised through the campaign.
The Reading Rainbow campaign has seen record numbers and has reached the top five most successful Kickstarter campaigns. To help with the final push, the other four most successful Kickstarter campaigns have each offered to add their own perks to help the Reading Rainbow pledges.
Back in May of 2012, the Pepple smartwatch had a goal of $100,000. By the end of the campaign, 68,929 backers pledged $10,266,845. This campaign holds the record for the most money pledged on Kickstarter.
The Pebble smartwatch is a digital watch that connects to an Android or iOS device and displays and runs apps from the device. A Jet-Black Pebble will be a special edition smartwatch offered to 500 backers that pledge $140. Each smartwatch will come with LeVar Burton’s signature etched into the metal back plate. Pebble will also create a special 8-bit version of Burton to customize the watchface.
In August of 2012, OUYA had a goal of $950,000. By the end of the campaign, 63,416 backers pledged $8,596,474.
The Android gaming console, OUYA has created a one-time limited edition sky-blue console for the campaign. A pledge of $250 reward will be the console, a controller, and be hand-signed by LeVar Burton. The signature will be limited to the 500 available, but another signature sky-blue console can be added to any pledge for $175. Pledgers can also choose to donate a Ouya to a school for $150.
In addition to the limited edition consoles, OUYA will bring the Reading Rainbow app to the OUYA when the $5 million goal is met. OUYA will also donate a free OUYA console to every adopt-a-school reward from the $5,000 pledges package.
On the campaign page, Burton states that the final push to reach $5,000,000 is all thanks to McFarlane’s pledge to match $1,000,000. The other Kickstarter campaigns joined after the news rejuvenated pledge interest and also got previous pledger to donate more. The adding of more rewards comes to the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter when the pledges also mean a doubling donation.
In April, Pono had the goal of $800,000. By the end of the campaign, 18,220 backers pledged $6,225,354.
The high-quality music player, Pono will make special edition Reading Rainbow PonoPlayers as a reward for the 20 people who pledge $750. The player will have Burton’s signature laser-engraved on the side and will include a few music tracks with an audio message from Burton.
In April of 2013, the Veronica Mars movie had a goal of $2,000,000. By the end of the campaign, 91,585 backers pledged $5,702,153. Although it did not raise the most money, the Veronica Mars campaign has the record of the most backers on Kickstarter.
Veronica Mars, the movie that was completely funded by Kickstarter will offer a special live Reading Rainbow with Burton and a few of the stars from the Movie. Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, and Jason Dohring will join Burton for a benefit event in Los Angeles during the spring of 2015. Backers that pledge $750 will receive three tickets to attend the live reading and will also get signed souvenirs.
As the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign adds more rewards, the pledges continue to pour in. With just 60 hours until the campaign is set to end, pledges has reached $4,500,000.
