Secret Bases Will Return in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have secret bases

Don’t fret, Secret Bases are back! Pokémon X and Pokémon Y brought a lot to the Nintendo 3DS but certain fan favorite features were not present. The upcoming Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will be sporting Secret Bases just like they did in the original, but this time there are a number of additional features and customization. November 21 is the worldwide release date for both titles.

What is a Secret Base? It is your own personal space to decorate and enjoy. It is basically your own little gym, you can even set specific rules for battles within your Secret Base for when other trainers visit. You can add mazes, decorations, and traps to create a specific theme or atmosphere. Super-Secret Bases will be introduced in the Hoenn region by a new trainer, Aarune, and his Flygon.

Another returning feature of Secret Bases is capture-the-flag. When you visit another player’s Secret Base you can look for their flag, which is located next to the PC, each flag can be obtained once a day (per base). Collecting these flags will improve your team rank and get you extra rewards. A player’s rank is represented by the color of their flag, which changes colors as your rank increases. If you want to visit a friend’s Secret Base there are two different ways to go about it. The 3DS focuses on connecting with friends via StreetPass, which is one way to go about it, or through the use of QR Codes.

The real way to connect with others is to become “Secret Pals.” When you are visiting a Secret Base and someone is there you can give them an invite to your own Secret Base, this will make the two of you Secret Pals. As your rank increases your Secret Pal benefits increase, you can help make Pokemon eggs hatch at an accelerated rate or boost a Pokemon’s level like a rare candy.

There is one feature that may not be making it back to Secret Bases from the original Game Boy Advance versions of Ruby and Sapphire; character customization. Such details have not been confirmed or deconfirmed but screenshots make it seem as though it may be vacant.

Both Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have an official worldwide release date set for November 21, 2014. These remakes include a few new Mega Evolutions, such as Swampert, Sceptile, and Sableye, as well as “Primal Reversion” for both Groudon and Kyogre. If you missed the release trailer, here you go.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are the long-awaited rereleases of the third generation of Pokemon. Both are only for the Nintendo 3DS and release worldwide November 21. Secret Bases will be making a return, although now they are considered “Super-Secret Bases.” These personal gyms will give trainers a customized environment to make their own and have fun with. Customizing battle rules really helps to solidify Secret Bases as a personal headquarters, hopefully this feature will one day see a transfer to the Pokemon Bank.
