The online shopping entity Amazon has just bought the outstanding shares of the online streaming service Twitch for $970 million dollars. The deal has already been approved by Twitch shareholders and is expected to close later this year.
Twitch CEO Emmit Shear released a statement as the announcement broke less than an hour ago, confirming the Amazon purchase of his company. “We chose Amazon,” Shear said, “because they believe in our community.” He went on to say that the acquiring company can assure them resources to make future Twitch goals a reality.
