Season 10 of The Bachelorette featured Andi Dorfman, a previous The Bachelor contestant, on her own journey to find love. She was portrayed as a strong, career-driven attorney from Atlanta, Georgia and as someone who is a very down to earth, modern-sounding woman. Even in light of all the labels and opinions she has received from fans and press from this season’s show, she is standing steadfast in her choice.
Following the show’s traditional structure, Andi began with 25 suitors. Week by week, at the fated Rose Ceremony, the selected number who did not receive a rose were eliminated. The circle of eligible men grew smaller and smaller and Andi got caught up in the emotions and struggle to decide if any of them could be her future husband. Personal interview clips of the love-seeking young woman filtered in and out each episode, revealing her insights – much like diary entries. Fans of The Bachelorette rode along on her emotional roller coaster, their own hearts and opinions becoming invested in the decision-making. Shouts of dismay and judgment exploded behind millions of TVs when Andi did not select the gentleman that they had rooted for.
Eventually, the suitors diminished to the top three. More details of the men’s backgrounds and feelings for Andi surfaced. Tension rose as the Bachelorette led the men through the final dates, including that of “the fantasy suite.” Deeper emotions surfaced as the suitors poured out their hearts and feelings in a last-minute attempt to secure themselves as the preferred choice. Only two actually got to enjoy the mysteries of the fantasy suite date – Josh and Nick – which remained traditionally behind closed doors and off camera.
The plot thickened. On their final dates, both men tried to go all out for Andi and Josh romanced her with a personalized baseball card that read, “Andi Murray.” From there, their time together only got better and more intimate as they voiced pet names to each other and cuddled on a cruise in the Dominican Republic. With Nick, the two went on an off-roading adventure. He confessed his love for her and his desire to marry her, but kept his guard up due to insecurity. A little later during their date, Nick presented a necklace with a vial of sand from their very first date as a tangible token of his love.
Who did Andi choose after her journey on The Bachelorette Season 10? Was it twenty-nine year old Josh Murray, a former baseball player from Georgia, or Nick Viall, a 33-year-old software sales executive? On the three-hour season finale, Andi finally revealed the long-awaited decision. After eight-weeks of dates, drama and adventure, audiences waited with bated breath.
On a romantically adorned square of sandy beach, Andi stood in a stylish, halter-top cream-colored dress. Her hair done up in a half pony tail, she waited for Murray to appear. Holding his hands, she announced that he was her choice. “I’ve loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you,” Andi confessed emphatically. “I’ve loved you since the moment I saw you and spoke to you. Out of everything I’ve been through, I know I love you. I’m madly in love with you!”
Immediately, Murray dropped to one knee, revealing a Neil Lane diamond ring, worth $72K, and a romantic proposal. In shock and joy, Andi emotionally accepted his offer. Murray, with a huge smile, slid the ring on her finger.
During the “After the Rose” show, a heart-broken Nick publicly confronted Andi about not being chosen even though they had made love together. In response, Andi chided him, saying that that information should have stayed private. The host Chris Harrison stepped in at this and redirected the conversation to a more appropriate topic – the future of the happy couple. “I think we’re going to enjoy being engaged for a while, officially and publicly,” Andi reported to E! Online. “Just kind of enjoy it, and then probably start to plan a wedding. He would like it sooner than I would because I have to plan.” “Spring time is perfect,” Murray interjected.
Andi voiced concern about this and whether she could plan it in time, but her supportive fiancé expressed confidence that she could. So, the pending date for Andi and Josh is in six months. Yet, there is still an unanswered question that lingers heavily in the air. It is the same one that surfaces after the conclusion of every season on The Bachelorette or The Bachelor.
The question is if the happy couple will actually go the distance, and if the magical feeling at their televised engagement was just that – televised magic. Only time will tell what the ultimate conclusion is of Andi Dorfman’s journey for love on the tenth season of The Bachelorette.
