On Saturday, Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade got married to actress Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane) in Miami, Florida. The wedding took place at the majestic Chateau Artisan castle, befitting the celebrity royal couple. The theme of the wedding was black-and-white, according to Us Magazine. The location of the wedding, where the rapper, Birdman, shot a video in 2010, had been kept a secret and guests were asked not to bring along any phones or cameras.
Though the couple were surrounded by their friends and family members, including Dwyane Wade’s two older sons and one of his nephews, several big-name celebrities were also at the wedding. Among the celebrities there were comedian and actor Kevin Hart, filmmaker Will Packer, Jamie Foxx, singer John Legend, Dorell Wright of the Portland Trail Blazers and fellow teammate on the Miami Heat, Chris Bosh, with his wife Adrienne.
According to Gabrielle Union, 41, when she was on Ellen in February, the wedding was Dwyane Wade’s “princess moment.” She told Ellen DeGeneres that Wade had “been hoarding bridal magazines.” Union said that Wade was into planning out every moment of the wedding, even when it came to if the tables should have centerpieces or not. The total estimated cost of the wedding weekend is $5 million, according to a report by FoxSports.com.
The newlyweds had been dating for four years when Dwyane Wade, 32, proposed to Union last December. Wade gave his bride-to-be a sparkling cushion-cut, 8.5-carat diamond ring. The custom made diamond ring is reportedly worth nearly $1 million, and the gemstone was personally chosen by Dwayne Wade.
In July 2012, on Oprah’s Next Chapter, Dwyane Wade enthused about the love of his life to Oprah Winfrey. He said that Gabrielle Union made his eyes “sparkle,” and he liked how Union would spend time with his son, Zaire, helping him with his homework. He said that, at times like that, “my heart is smiling a little bigger that day because I know her love is deeper than just me.”
Dwyane Wade’s marriage to Gabrielle Union is his second one. He had previously been married from 2002-2007 to his high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn Funches. His two sons from that marriage, Zion and Zaire, were at his wedding to Gabrielle Union. It was also Union’s second time to get married. From 2001-2005, she was the wife of NFL star Chris Howard.
According to Gabrielle Union on The Arsenio Hall Show in February, at her insistence, there was no prenup. She told Arsenio that “the reality is I’ve never seen Dwyane balance a checkbook, so I gotta protect my stuff.” Though it might be true that Wade does not often balance his checkbook, the multimillionaire is probably not very worried about running out of money any time soon.
Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, were wed on Saturday, August 30, in a castle, like the celebrity royalty that they are. The castle was even surrounded by a moat, and Dwyane Wade and Union were reportedly flown to the destination by helicopter. It is the second time for both members of this power couple to tie the knot. Hopefully, they will have a long and happy life together.
