Exciting reveals for the fans of the horror and story-driven gaming today. Bioware talks about their upcoming four-on-one role-playing title Shadow Realms and an interactive teaser from Sony suggest an upcoming Silent Hills involving Kojima, Del Toro and Reedus. On top of that, Bungie has announced the date for the first Destiny expansion pack, and Sony boasts a whopping 10 million sales of their latest console. Here is the gaming news daily digest from Guardian Liberty Voice for Aug, 13, 2014.
Bioware’s new 4-on-1 online role-playing game
The past few weeks, BioWare has been teasing its fans with cryptic little videos of an upcoming title. The publisher finally revealed more details behind the new game at this year’s GamesCom. Shadow Realms will be an online cooperative RPG pitting four heroes against one grand master capable of manipulating the world in a number of ways and spawning monsters. The idea is inspired by the classic pen and paper RPGs such as Dungeon and Dragons, where a group of adventurers would have to overcome challenges set by the single dungeon master. The game will take place in a modern fantasy setting and give the players a choice between six different classes, such as the typical Wizard, Warrior or Ranger. The weapons will mix both fantasy archetypes as well as modern inventions, so gamers can expect swords and guns on the same battlefield. On top of that, BioWare is putting a big focus on story, planning to reveal it in an episodic format similar to a “great TV series.”
New Silent Hills from Kojima, Del Toro and Reedus?
Sony has put up an interactive teaser for a horror game during the GamesCom, and one of the fans has apparently manage to unlock a secret cut scene. The little clip shows a desolate town and title cards linking Hideo Kojima, famous for the Metal Gear series, and director Guillermo Del Toro, known for his work on Hellboy. It also depicts a virtual Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, and finishes with the words Silent Hills. It is not clear whether these are just credits for the teaser, or perhaps a prediction of more to come, but if the mix of talent and established franchises is really involved in working on something bigger, gamers can expect a thrilling mix of story and horror adventuring in the future.
Destiny first expansion coming in December
The release of the highly anticipated massively multiplayer shooter inspired by Halo is getting closer and closer. However, the game not yet being out is not stopping its developer Bungie from already planning expansions post-release. The first, titled The Dark Below, is scheduled for December. A second expansion, House of Wolves, is also in the making but without an official release date yet. Both will add more competitive and cooperative adventures to Destiny. With all the hype and the recent highly successful beta, it is no surprise it is the most pre-ordered new IP, as the Activision publishing boss Eric Hirshberg announced.
Playstation 4 sells 10 million
Sony has reached a new milestone with their latest platform officially selling 10 million units to the costumers. Playstation 4 launched back in November 2013 and has been the best-selling console of this generation, leaving both the Xbox One and WiiU in the dust. On top of that, Playstation 4 is also selling faster than its predecessor, giving high hopes for Sony’s future. In the meantime, both Microsoft and Nintendo are struggling to win the consumers over, removing the kinect bundle and offering exciting exclusives such as Mario Kart 8 respectively. Neither has managed to topple Sony’s good run this generation, however.
