Hayden Panettiere has revealed that she will be giving birth to a baby girl. The 25-year-old actress dropped the news on the Emmy Awards 2014 red carpet on Monday, August 25th.
During a conversation with Italian television personality Giuliani Rancic, the former Heroes star was asked about her upcoming arrival. She responded that she could not wait for “her” to come on, thus revealing the baby’s gender. When Rancic asked Panettiere to confirm what she had just said, the actress agreed and stated once more that her unborn child was indeed going to be a baby girl. She is expecting the child with her fiancé, Ukrainian heavyweight professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko. The two have been in a relationship since 2009, and engaged since 2013. The engagement occurred after the two rekindled their romance following a two-year split in 2011.
The two first met at a party for a mutual acquaintance, shortly after which they began dating. Their relationship began to draw the public’s attention when Panettiere began appearing ringside at some of Klitschko’s fights, most famously the match in which he knocked out opponent Samuel Peter for the 10th time. In 2013, the couple embarked on a political mission together, making the decision to visit the Euromaidan protests in Kiev, Ukraine’s capital. The two took to the crowd to express their support and desire to assist the city in their time of civil unrest. One of the leading figures in these protests is Klitschko’s brother Vitali.
Both Panettiere and her fiancé share an interest in activism, and have contributed much to charitable causes they believe in. The Nashville star herself is a proud supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities, as well as a supporter of animal rights. She worked tirelessly with PETA back in 2007 and 2008 in an attempt to stop dolphin hunting in Japan and Norway, even going so far as to send a letter of protest to the Norwegian ambassador. In 2012, Klitschko attended a charity auction in Kiev, in which he auctioned off his gold medal from the 1996 Olympics for a total of $1 million. He said he did so in order to help the dreams of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children who were not able to live their life to its fullest.
After much speculation, fans were able to gain confirmation of Panettiere’s pregnancy just a few days ago by way of an Instagram post shared by Dancing With The Stars personality Derek Hough, in which she completed the highly coveted ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The dancer wrote that the two could not figure out how to post the video on the actress’s own Twitter, so he was posting it for her. She revealed the news by way of her nominations, one of which she joked was her unborn child, as well as her fiancé and country musician Kacey Musgraves. The video’s comments were full of congratulatory messages and well wishes for her and Klitschko’s future, as well as questions asking the actress if she knew the baby’s gender and was willing to share it yet.
Neither Panettiere nor her fiancé have given any hints to their upcoming child’s name as of yet. However, the television star has definitely confirmed that her unborn child is indeed a girl.
