Hillary Duff’s Chasing the Sun single has just been released. Although somewhat apprehensive since she has been away from music seven years, she is upbeat about the music’s prospects. Duff and her husband of four years, former pro hockey player Mike Comrie, separated earlier this year. Her new album explores the conflicts in her relationship.
Duff began her career at six years old traveling in Cechetti Ballet with her sister, Haylie Duff, who she claims is still her role model. As a girl, she was shy. She claims Haylie was the one who would go up and talk to people. Hillary wanted to act and snared the starring role in Ellie, The Soul Collector in 1999. For her role, she won a Best Performance in a TV Movie or Pilot (Supporting Young Actress) Young Artist Award. From there she went on to play Wendy, the young witch in Casper Meets Wendy in 1998. However, her best-known role was probably Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel, airing from 2001 to 2004. The Lizzie McGuire Movie grossed $42 million in the U.S. She has many awards including ranking number 46 on Rolling Stones, 50 Richest Rockers and one of People’s, 50 Most Beautiful People.
Following Lizzie, Duff went on to star in many Disney movies including Human Nature, A Cinderella Story, Cheaper by the Dozen, and The Perfect Man. In music, her first album Metamorphosis sold 203,000 copies in the first week then went to number one on the Billboard 200 selling more than two million copies. Later she toured for five years straight. She loved the music business, but at 26 had no life and said, “I kind of needed to shut it all down. It was time for me to be a person and learn who I wanted to be.”
Duff dated Mike Comrie for three years before they married on August 14, 2010. During the marriage, she learned to cook and renovate houses. Then on March 20, 2012, she had their son, Luca Cruz Comrie, whom she adores. Although separated from her husband, she claims, “We have a lot of love for each other.” She says they are really good friends and have lots of respect for each other. They still hang out, love spending time together and are attempting to “honor happiness whatever that is and however we need to sort that out.” Presently they are not sure of the future.
For now, she is excited about releasing her single and the record deal she has signed. The album should be out by fall. “I’ve always felt like a normal girl in this extraordinary situation,” Duff said.
In Chasing the Sun, Duff enjoyed working with singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran. She said, “It was so amazing to have him there and to have him be so involved.”
Duff remains close to her sister, and her mom is her hero. She describes it as “a very tight-knit family” even though they are apart a lot. “It sounds really cheesy, but I think my life is kind of like a fairy tale. I worked really hard, but I’m very, very lucky, too,” Duff said. Even though her music career may seem like a thing of the past, Hillary Duff’s new single Chasing the Sun may be the comeback she needs.
