The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are only a day away and it looks like there have been a couple of accidents occur; one with a back-up dancer for Nicki Minaj and one with Iggy Azalea. While one was brought to hospital, the other bounced back and kept the show rolling.
First, while rehearsing for the VMAs, one of Nicki Minaj’s back-up dancers was bitten by a six-foot boa constrictor named Rocky. Minaj and her dancers were rehearsing Anaconda, and one of her dancers had Rocky the boa wrapped around her shoulders like a shawl.
Rocky, who has had a 15-year run in the showbiz industry, has never had any such incident before but for some reason, during the Anaconda rehearsal, he suddenly bit the inner part of the dancers left arm. Perhaps Rocky was showing his distaste for the song or just trying to tell them that maybe Anaconda isn’t the one to go with for this year’s VMAs.
Whatever the reason, Minaj was said to have immediately rush to the dancer’s side to see if she was OK. Boa Constrictors are not venomous snakes and a medic on hand at the scene quickly tended to the dancer. Not throwing caution to the wind however, the dancer was taken to hospital to doubly make sure she was alright.
The snake biting incident has put Rocky out of the show and the snappy boa will be replaced by either another one or with a python.
Nicki Minaj’s dancer is not the only accident to happen the day before the VMAs; Iggy Azalea had fallen off stage during a pre-show. Iggy and rapper friend, Charli XCX were performing Fancy Friday night in Los Angeles at The Avalon when Azalea backed right off the stage.
Watching the video, it does look like the Australian rapper could have severely hurt herself. Luckily as quickly as she went down, Azalea got right back up as security helped her back on stage. The Black Widow singer even posted a video clip of it on Instagram saying that she just had to share the laugh with everyone. Iggy also said that the fact that she did not break her legs makes her feel “very blessed” and typed the caption, “I know I laughed.”
The two were performing for an MTV VMAs charity benefit concert when the fall occurred. The event was for Lifebeat-Music Fights HIV/Aids and also included Sam Smith and Tori Kelly, who also performed.
Iggy Azalea is slated to perform at the VMAs, Sunday evening which takes place in Ingelwood, California. Azalea is to perform with Rita Ora and is up for a total of seven awards. Hopefully the fall will not affect the Black Widow performance.
The dancer for Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea are both OK after each having an accident before performing for the VMAs. Hopefully all other singers and dancers scheduled to perform will all have easier rehearsals with less drama. The MTV Video Music Awards airs on MTV Sunday night at 9/8C.
