Taylor Swift, who previously appeared on the fourth season of The Voice enthusiastically endorsing competitor Michelle Chamuel’s rendition of Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble, will be joining the cast for one episode acting as an advisor to the competitors. The episode has already been shot. According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, Swift “had great feedback for all the contestants” and the Shake It Off singer “was an absolute pleasure to work with.”
Speaking of Shake It Off, which Taylor Swift, 24, performed at the MTV VMAs, it entered at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this past week at number one. It is only the 22nd song ever to have done so. According to Billboard, in its debut week, Shake It Off managed to attain the distinction of achieving the highest amount of digital sales so far this year, at 544,000 downloads. That total was even higher than the amount of downloads for the best sales week for the year’s top song, Happy by Pharrell Williams, at 490,000.
Similar to when Chris Martin of Colplay served as a mentor during Season Six of The Voice, Taylor Swift will advise each of the competitors, not just those on any one team. Also, the great singer from Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks — who sang at Adam Levine’s wedding — will be the mentor of Team Adam.
Gavin Rossdale of Bush will be the mentor for her wife, Gwen’s, Team Stefani, while the group Little Big Town will serve as the mentors for Team Blake Shelton. Singer Alicia Keys will be joining The Voice as the mentor for Team Pharrell Williams.
Gwen Stefani, 44, told Us Weekly in June that Gavin was “super articulate” and added that her husband had “been doing a really good job.” It will be great seeing how Taylor Swift and the other mentors, like Rossdale, do when The Voice Season Seven premieres next month.
In her role as an advisor on The Voice, Taylor Swift will basically offer support and a few words of advice to each competitor. It could mean the difference between staying on The Voice for a few more episodes or going home early for some of the contestants.
Season Seven of The Voice will premiere on September 22 and singer Taylor Swift, who has already gotten most of country music’s highest accolades and awards, will be an advisor to each of the teams. That will be just five weeks before Taylor Swift’s upcoming all-pop album, 1989, drops into record stores this October 27. With Shake It Off already at number one at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, 1989 just might enter the charts at the number one spot, also.
