Tonight Show: Jimmy Fallon and Sylvester Stallone Verbally Box [Videos]

Jimmy Fallon

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon boxes guest Sylvester Stallone verbally into submission (well…close enough); the vivacious and talented actress Eve Hewson from The Knick talks about shooting up her co-star, Clive Owen; and, this year’s winner of Last Comic Standing, Rod Man, gives a knock-out stand-up performance. It was a great Thursday line-up. On Friday, the guests will be Jason Statham, Demi Lovato and David Chang.

Jimmy Fallon began the Tonight Show with his monologue. The audience gave him a standing ovation.

“I feel the love!” he said “Love is in the air. The news is just terrible. It’s a pretty tense situation in Ferguson, Missouri. When the cops saw the van from CNN, they said ‘you guys are fine.'”

“President Obama won’t make any announcements during his trip back to D.C., but did say he would make some minor announcements: ‘Nobody likes the white crayon in a box of crayons until you have a colored piece of construction paper. Then, it becomes the star of the show.”

“Kim Kardashian just came out with a book of her Selfies. It’s 352 pages long. I’m going to buy that book. It’s all the bad ones — the ones that didn’t make Instagram.”

“This is not good — the Secret Service just arrested a ring of counterfeiters in New Jersey. One of them said ‘Are you sure that this is nothing a seven dollar bill can’t get me out of?'”

“Tonight, we have a fantastic show! I love this man — his new movie, The Expendables 3, is out tomorrow! Plus, she’s a talented young actress and it will be her first tonight show appearance — Eve Hewson! The winner of Last Comic Standing, Rod Man, who won it earlier tonight, will also be here!”

Jimmy Fallon said that after he and The Roots and Rob Riggle did the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” last night, he challenged the New York Jets. The Jets accepted the challenge and even got hosed down with cold water afterward.

Then, Fallon did the Hashtag Challenge. Last night, he told viewers that the topic would be Vacation Fail Tweets — here are a few of them Jimmy Fallon mentioned, somewhat paraphrased:

“We went to Myrtle Beach and put my dad in charge of taking pictures, When we got them back, there were all pictures of his eye.”

“My dad and brother left me in the tent to investigate because they heard a bear. Turns out, it was my mom snoring.’

“Our vacation rental had this picture hanging on a wall. We had to put it in the closet because it was scaring us all.”

“My dad accidentally bought women’s Capri pants at Disney World and got mad when we told him.”

“On vacation, the waiter brought flaming shots and my dad lit his hair on fire.”

“My mom said we would ride on Space Mountain together. When we got to the front, she said ‘No,’ so I had to ride it with a stranger.”

After that, Jimmy Fallon introduced Sylvester Stallone: “Hands down, he’s one of the greatest action stars of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, Sylvester Stallone!” Stallone came out and The Roots were playing the Rocky theme song. He threw a few punches in the air and started talking like Rocky, mumbling.

He said he was actually born in the area of Hell’s Kitchen. “It smelled like a kitchen, except from Hell,” he said.

“Did you do Broadway plays or off-Broadway plays?” Fallon asked.

“I did off-Newark plays,” Stallone said. “Sometimes there were only three people there and two were relatives.”

“You’re one of my all-time favorites. I don’t know if people know you wrote Rocky, you wrote Rambo, you wrote The Expendables!”

“It’s very hard to get a part when it looks like someone has hung an umbrella from the corner of your mouth,” Stallone said.

He was broke when he wrote Rocky. Stallone said “That’s how things get accomplished, when you jump into the fire and you’re not worried about getting burned a bit.”

After more commercials, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon returned and Jimmy Fallon talked a bit more with Stallone. Harrison Ford is one of the other actors in The Expendables 3, as are Mel Gibson, Lesley Snipes, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many more stars.

“Schwarzenegger — I heard that you guys hated each other for a while,” Fallon said.

“We were competitive,” was Stallone’s answer.

“You would do Rambo, and he –“

“–he would do Commando,” Stallone finished the sentence for Fallon.

“You have to do what you know, folks,” Stallone said — for him, it was action adventure movies. Fallon showed a video trailer from The Expendables 3. There was a lot of shooting and a lot of violence, two of the best qualities for an action/adventure flick to have.

Jimmy Fallon

“My next guest stars opposite Clive Owen in The Knick, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Eve Hewson!” Jimmy Fallon said.

Jimmy Fallon said “A lot of people probably don’t know who your dad is; he’s Bono from U2. He introduced us, didn’t he?”

“Yes,” she answered. “He said ‘this is Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy, this is Eve, and then we danced.”

She talked about pranking Justin Timberlake when she and her friends discovered a list of names and phone numbers in her dad’s office at home. She said she thought he “didn’t hang up because he was getting a lot of the questions right.”

Then, Fallon talked with her about The Knick. “Doctors were shooting up with cocaine back then,” he said.

“Actually, in the first episode, I got to shoot up Clive Owen’s penis with cocaine,” she said.

“That makes two of us,” Jimmy Fallon replied. He showed a video clip from The Knick, then said that the winner of Last comic Standing, Rod Man, would be on after the break. He is a hilarious comedian.

“Earlier tonight, our next guest beat out 100 other comedians to win The Last Comic Standing! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Rod Man!” Fallon said, introducing Rod Man.

“As I look around, I feel really black right now. It’s just you and me, The Roots. We need diversity and immigration. I like the Mexicans. They give the Mexican people a hard time — we need the Mexican people. I like fruit a whole lot but I don’t want to go out and pick it.”

He talked about having to check himself out at self-service grocery stores. He said “I don’t work here– these are my clothes, these are my clothes,” and he said he did not know “all of the food codes.”

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon really liked how Rod Man did. He invited the comedian to sit in the guest chair by Fallon’s desk. It was at the end of the episode. Besides Rod Man, Sylvester Stallone talking about growing up and how he got his start in show business was pretty interesting. No celebrities were harmed in the “verbal boxing” Jimmy Fallon and Stallone engaged in. Also, hearing that Eve Hewson was Bono’s daughter was pretty cool, as was the video clip from The Knick.
