Both Xbox and Playstation have similar monthly offerings for those that pay for their exclusive membership options. Microsoft recently began implementing this idea last year while Sony began this program about five years ago. Sony, having a stake in the handheld gaming market, offers not only games for their home consoles, but their current Playstation Vita portable as well. That being said, both companies allow their respective programs to reach from last generation to this one, giving monthly titles for both old hardware and new that are available as long as you are a member.
This month, Playstation Plus is offering their usual six games with two per system. For the Playstation 3, there is Playstation All-Star Battle Royale and Hoard, while Vita owners have Joe Danger and TxK to look forward to. Playstation 4 owners will receive Sports Friends, an original title, and Velocity 2X, a new release and sequel to Velocity Ultra.
Playstation All-Star Battle Royale is a title reminiscent of Super Smash Bros. from Nintendo, but has only characters that have appeared on a Sony platform, such as a Big Daddy from Bioshock or Kratos from the God of War series. Hoard is an action title that follows a tale of dragons looking to take treasure from enemies and offers upgradable beasts and multiple modes of play. The Vita titles, Joe Danger and TxK, are a stunt race simulator and what is described as “Tempest for a new generation,” respectively. Sports Friends is a local multiplayer game that uses the Playstation 4 controller in creative ways, while Velocity 2X is a science-fiction shooter mixed with platforming. All of these titles will be available for download starting Sept. 2 on each current Sony platform.
Xbox Gold games for September will give two games for the 360 and one for Xbox One. Their current-generation title will be Super TIME Force, a two-dimensional action-platformer, and will be available throughout September. The 360 offerings will be split into two week increments, with the first downloadable until Sept. 15 and the second available for the remained of the month. That first game will be the top-down co-op title Monaco, where you assemble friends to pull off a perfect crime. The second title will be Halo: Reach, a sidestep of the Halo universe that will not appear in the upcoming Master Chief Collection. Super TIME Force and Monaco will be available for download Sept. 1, with Halo: Reach coming Sept. 16.
The Xbox Gold and Playstation Plus services games for September will be taking the place of some other titles, but there is still time to download the ones being replaced. For Playstation, the Plus catalogue of games will be available as long as you are a member, and as long as the title remains on their digital store. Some deals, however, attached to Plus come and go on a weekly basis. Gold members have until Sept. 1 to pick up the shooter Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut on Xbox One, and the stealth-action game Dishonored on the 360 before those leave the program.
