Detroit Rapper Eminem finds himself in the Guinness Book of World Records 60th Edition coming out in 2015, and the reason why is pretty incredible. While other rappers, singers, and pop stars seem to always be in the news for less than desirable actions on their part, the Motown rapper is rarely seen in the tabloids and is all but non-existent on social media. So how did he get into the books and set a world record? By doing what he does best, rapping.
42-year-old Marshal Mathers aka, Eminem, aka, Slim Shady, has been the all time best-selling rapper in the 2000’s with over 115 million albums and singles sold in the US and over 40 million world-wide. Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed him the “King of Hip Hop,” the year he hit their charts on the 100 greatest artists of all time.
Eminem rose to world-wide fame with the release of his second album Slim Shady in 1999. Born in raised in Detroit, his songs revolved around his upbringing and his troubles on the streets. His split with wife Kim ranked high on the charts, and his public apology to his mom, Cleaning out my Closet, also rocketed to the top of the charts.
Although he apologizes within the lyrics, he is also very straight and to the point about why he has been estranged from her. This certainly had fans on his side when his mother tried to sue him, and their feud went public. Yet this hit rapper still kept to himself and mostly out of the limelight, much of his life experiences both good and bad are reflected in his songs.
Fans know that Eminem has a daughter that means the world to him, as expressed by his 2004 hit ‘Mockingbird’. A song whose lyrics were sung directly to his young daughter, who will have quite a legacy of songs written about her as the years go by. Haley, much like her father also chooses to stay out of the limelight, although she like many young woman can be found on social media.
In 2013 Eminem wrote a song called Rap God and this is what got him his world record. With over 1500 words, it is the single with the most numerous words for one song. Upon closer look, dedicated fans have noticed that his raps within this song can range up to 6 words per second. These same fans think that this should also be a record, and many have tried to find someone faster; however, this all remains undocumented.
The lyrics are explicit, and the video should probably not be viewed by the very young and impressionable; however, Eminem still remains a force to reckoned with in the world of rap. He has earned the respect of many of his peers, and many admit his superiority when it comes to rhymes. Many of today’s stars could take a page from the original Slim Shady and keep out of the spot light, and live their lives. Eminem has not had to be on the cover of every tabloid to achieve greatness. He lets his music do that for him.
