Jason Derulo and Jordan Sparks have reportedly split up after three years together. An insider broke the news to US Weekly on Thursday afternoon, and the R&B singer himself has since confirmed the split.
The source gave details surrounding the reason behind the breakup, attributing it to busy schedules and lack of time to see each other. The excessive amounts of travel back and forth versus the actual amount of time spent together reportedly led to frustration and the realization that it would be better for the both of them if they called things off, even though it would cause them both a lot of pain to separate.
The two are still reportedly doing their best to remain friends, and the source says that there is no bitterness or hard feelings from either one of them. Just two weeks ago, Sparks took to Instragram to post a cryptic message in which she expressed her view that love meant working through the hardships and painful times.
The couple was first romantically linked in 2011, although they did not officially confirm their relationship until 2012. When the two first met, Sparks was in a long-term relationship and said the idea of the two of them ever ending up together was the farthest thing from her mind. After she and her boyfriend broke up and she was free to date whoever she wanted, it was Derulo who was now in a relationship with someone else.
He has given the statement that although he knew he was supposed to be focused on the girl he was with at the time, he could not keep himself from thinking about the American Idol winner and knew that he viewed her as more than a friend. Derulo eventually decided that he could not pretend anymore, and broke things off with his girlfriend in order to ask Sparks out on a date. The two became almost instantly inseparable, gushing openly about their love whenever they had the opportunity. They were not at all shy when it came to public displays of affection, and cameras regularly caught the two enjoying an embrace or walking hand in hand. When the Talk Dirty singer suffered a neck injury in 2012, Sparks was at his side every second she could be in order to aid in his recovery. The couple was even considering marriage shortly after their relationship began, with both of them stating adamantly that they had never felt in such a way and that they were absolutely positive this was the person for them.
Indeed, the 25-year-old’s romantic track Marry You was reportedly penned for Sparks, as a message detailing how committed he was and that he felt the next step in their relationship could be coming soon. He shot down rumors that it was a direct proposal, explaining that it was merely a way of preparing his girlfriend for the possibility of such a thing occurring in the near future. It remains to be seen whether or not Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks will remain separated. For the time being, however, the two are said to believe the breakup is in both of their best interests.
