Legendary comedian Joan Rivers, 81, passed away at 1:17 p.m., Eastern time according to Variety. Pat Saperstein stated Rivers passed away due to complications from cardiac arrest suffered during a medical procedure undertaken at a New York Clinic on Aug. 28. After the medical incident, Rivers was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Her daughter, Melissa issued a statement saying she died peacefully around family and friends.
Known for her sharp humorous remarks and many appearances in the fashion industry, Joan Rivers was originally admitted to the clinic for surgery on her vocal cords. During the surgery she stopped breathing and was rushed to the hospital where doctors medically-induced her into a coma to relieve pressure. As of yesterday, Rivers was in critical but stable condition and on life-support. Joan Rivers is survived by her daughter and grandson, Cooper.
