Members of the Japanese coast guard are currently searching for nine people after a Chinese cargo ship, named Lurongyu 2859, sank Tuesday off the western coast of Japan. Chinese authorities reached out to Japan for help in carrying out a search and recovery mission for the nine missing crewmembers.
According to Naoto Ishmaru of the Japanese coast guard, five crewmembers aboard the Lurongyu 2859 have been rescued. At this time, there are no further details available about the incident or what may have caused the cargo ship to sink.
