Taken 3 now ‘Tak3n’

The newly-named Tak3n is the third in the Taken series starring Liam Neeson and Famke Jenson. Neeson himself, who helms as the headline star again, has hinted that the tale of Bryan Mills will be coming to a close soon. He also reveals some plot points for the upcoming sequel, pointing to the family being in danger and on the run from a new set of enemies. This series has been a turning point in the popular actor’s career that has been financially successful for him since the first entry.

Neeson, as Mills, has saved his family from danger the past two entries in the series, but the danger comes from a more homogenous source this go-around. In an interview, Neeson reveals that Mills, though he was a faithful servant to his country, is now being chased by American officials as well as some “not-so-lawful types” while being framed for a friend’s murder. The actor, playing coy with their motivations, simply reveals “they must not like me [Mills].” A few jokes also came during the interview, such as the reality of “bad parenting” setting in should Mills’ daughter be kidnapped again. Forest Whitaker will join the cast as a new character while Jensen and Maggie Grace will reprise their familial roles.

Tak3n, as it stands, looks to be the last entry in the Taken series according to other comments made by Neeson. This third entry is, he says, “a rollicking good story, but I think this is the end.” Series newcomer Whitaker, however, was also discussing the possible end of the series and brought up the idea of a fourth entry, which spurred Internet speculation. Should a fourth happen, it may have to be without Neeson, as he seems set on this being the final installment in the successful series.

So far, the franchise has been a global success that cast Liam Neeson in a new action-centric light for a string of movies to come. Before Taken, he was best known for his appearance as Qui-Gon Jin in Star Wars Episode One – The Phantom Menace and Gangs of New York as the gang leader, Priest. Since the first Taken released in 2008, he has appeared in many leading roles where he tackles challenges with a gun and his particular set of skills. Unknown, Non-Stop, The Grey and The A-Team are examples of his leading man roles while movies such as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight Rises, The Next Three Days, Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans and Battleship had him in a supporting role. He also took several breaks to star in other, lighter movies such as The Lego Movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and even a voice over in the video game Fallout 3.

The Taken trilogy, should Tak3n end up being the final film, has launched Neeson’s career higher than ever before. For the first film, he made a reported $1 million dollars for his portrayal, but stands to make $20 million for this third entry. Globally, both titles have brought in over $600 million from their box office runs alone. A Walk Amongst the Tombstones, Neeson’s latest film, will be coming this weekend while Non-Stop took in $200 million during its theater time. Taken 3, now called Tak3n, will hit theaters worldwide on Jan. 9, 2015.
