The Rock in Rio Festival will have its first U.S. incarnation in Las Vegas in May 2015 and already, several acts have announced that they will perform there, like Taylor Swift and Metallica. They will be two of the headliner acts. Taylor Swift will, no doubt, be singing many songs off of her hit album 1989.
Mark the dates of May 8-9 and May 15-16 down, because those are the four days that Rock in Rio in Las Vegas will be held in 2015. Two of the other big-name acts scheduled to perform on the main stage will be Linkin Park and No Doubt. On the Sunset Stage, acts such as John Legend and the Deftones will be entertaining audiences. The Las Vegas Rock in Rio Festival will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the musical event.
Specifically for the upcoming Rock in Rio event, there will be built an open-air “City of Rock” music venue spread out over 37 acres, according to Contactmusic.com. The casino company, MGM Resorts is one of the major players behind constructing the music venue. The will be six stages for musical acts to perform on and even a zipline for adventurous tourists and concert attendees to use. The venue will be designed for a capacity audience of 80,000. With the venue being located right on the Las Vegas Strip, the first Las Vegas Rock in Rio Festival is destined to be a success.
According to NME.com, another group behind the ambitious “City of Rock” musical venue is Cirque du Soleil. The immense area will include three “Rock Streets.” These streets will be themed around the music and culture of Brazil, the U.K., and the U.S.
Rock in Rio has it origins back in 1985, when the first one was in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro. Iconic rock acts like Queen, Rod Stewart, Iron Maiden and AC/DC performed there. Since then, the music festival has also been held in Portugal’s capital of Lisbon and Madrid, Spain. In September 2015, the Rock in Rio Festival will return to Rio de Janeiro. Two acts already signed to perform in Rio de Janeiro are John Legend and Katy Perry.
The preliminary lineup was announced on Friday September 26, right in Times Square, according to the New York Daily News. Though Taylor Swift was not there, No Doubt was, along with Brazil’s Sepultura. John Mayer got the crowds there pumped when he performed two of his songs. Mayer performed along with Justin Timberlake and Beyonce at the Rock in Rio Festival in 2013, according to Brazil News.
Taylor Swift will be one of the headliners at the Las Vegas Rock in Rio Festival, a four-day event that will take place in May, 2015. Metallica will be another of the headliners, which is sure to please fans of straight ahead, all-out rock ‘n’ roll. It will mark the debut of Taylor Swift at a Rock in Rio Festival, but it will be the seventh time for Metallica to appear at one, according to Rolling Stone. The old saying is that “May brings flowers,” but, in this case, the month of May will bring the Rock in Rio Festival to Las Vegas for the first time ever!
