Things have begun to heat up on The View already. Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell nearly caused an explosion as their tempers flared last Thursday during the “Hot Topic” segment about hands on discipline and children. The two co-hosts got into a verbal altercation when Whoopi cut off Rosie, who explained previously how passionate she was about the subject matter.
Reportedly, Rosie felt disrespected when Whoopi abruptly cut the conversation short. The topic had gone on too long when Whoopi was directed by the producers that it was time for a commercial break. Rosie, who refuses to wear her in-ear monitor, did not hear the instruction and thought Whoopi rudely cut her off. Rosie got offended and decided to challenge her co-host.
Whoopi attempted to explain what had occurred and advised Rosie if she had worn the monitor as instructed she would know what was going on. Once the break for the commercial started Rosie grabbed a handheld microphone and commenced to telling Whoopi that she did not appreciate the way she was handled; she was upset and her feelings were hurt. Realizing the conversation was heating up Whoopi said, “This is not the time for this, Rosie.”
Rosie continued her rant in the presence of the audience. She was not going to let this fly and wanted Whoopi and anyone else within earshot to know. She continued:
Well I just don’t appreciate you saying that you were going to do something and not doing it. It makes me upset and I just don’t want to have to go through this.
Whoopi did not waver and repeated to Rosie that the timing for this discussion was not appropriate and they should table it. Rosie refused. Whoopi, losing her patience, responded:
F*** it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don’t want to listen. If you want to go there Rosie, I will da**it. I’m really sick of your s***!
Since the beginning of the new season things have been quite tense behind the scenes between Whoopi and Rosie. Sources state Rosie is having a hard time not being in charge. She wants her old role back and is having a difficult time staying in her lane. Whoopi is not happy with all of the changes and no longer enjoys doing the show. She has begged the network to terminate her contract and pay her the remaining funds owed so she can go home.
This is not Rosie’s first go-round with the show. She quit the show during an on-air fight with a former co-host the first time she was on The View. In 2007, Rosie and Elisabeth Hasselbeck went head to head during the “Hot Topics” segment. Viewers called this “the best cat fight of the year which will go down in history.”
With two very strong personalities in place, this is no doubt the first of many disputes the viewers will witness. This blow up seems to support the idea that Rosie feels entitled to take the lead, even though they all know Whoopi is the “voice” of the show. Sources from The View said Rosie has been difficult to harness since she re-joined the show and acts as if she is running things.
The showdown has begun and things are heating up on The View. Whoopi Goldberg and her co-host Rosie O’Donnell had a verbal altercation during the “Hot Topic” portion of the show. Reportedly, everything came to a standstill after Rosie finally backed down. Co-host Rosie Perez turned the tide when she jokingly interjected, “Oh s*** Twitter is going to be off the hook!” After the commercial break the two regained their composure and carried on as if nothing ever happened.
