‘Dancing With the Stars’: Pitbull Brings It [Recap]

Dancing With the Stars
On Dancing With the Stars on ABC tonight, international singing sensation Pitbull returned to both perform and also to fill in as a judge in the continued absence of Len Goodman. Pitbull brought it on, by singing one of his biggest hits, Fireball, to start off the show.

Then, the nine remaining celebrities danced to more of Pitbull’s hits combined with some of their personal favorites. Unlike last week, which was “Switch Up Week,” on Dancing With the Stars, by the end of the episode, one celeb and his or her pro dance partner was eliminated. The dance styles the couples danced to were Jazz, Salsa, Tango, Foxtrot and Rumba. Also, celeb Leah Remini filled in for the usual co-host, Erin Andrews.

The nine celebrities left on Dancing With the Stars at the beginning of the episode were Michael Waltrip, Jonathan Bennett, Lea Thompson, Tommy Chong, Antonio Sabato Jr., Bethany Mota, Sadie Robertson, Alfonso Ribeiro and Janel Parrish. Which one will not be returning next week? Read on, to find out!

Tonight’s Dancing With the Stars first couple to perform was Jonathan Bennett and Allison Holker. They danced a Jazz dance to Pitbull’s song, Back in Time, and were TERRIFIC! It was a great dance to start off the night with, and the audience really got into the performance. The judges seemed to like it, too, giving them scores of straight 8s, for a total of 32/40 points. That score is usually more than good enough to ensure a couple is safe, but, the scores of voters across America also are factored in to the equation, so it can be difficult to tell sometimes if a celeb will be staying or going home.

Janel Parrish and her professional dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, were the second couple of the evening to show off their dance skills on Dancing With the Stars . They danced a Samba to La Vida Es Un Carnaval, by Celia Cruz. Carrie Ann gave them an 8, while Pitbull was a bit more stingy, just giving them a score of 7. Julianne Hough and Bruno made up for that, awarding them scores of 9s, for a total of 33/40 points, placing them in the lead so far tonight.

Then, after a commercial break, Dancing With the Stars returned. Couple number three was  Tommy Chong and his pro dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd, who danced a Foxtrot. They danced it to Earth, Wind & Fire’s song, September. Back with his original dance partner, Chong did better than he did last week, and the couple were given scores of straight 7s, for a total of 28/40 points. That was enough to ensure that they were safe at the end of the episode and they will be moving on to dance again next week.

Couple number four on Dancing With the Stars was Antonio Sabato Jr. and the lovely Cheryl Burke. They performed a Salsa dance to the song Bailando by Enrique Iglesias (featuring Gente de Zona, Descemer Bueno and Sean Paul). Like with Chong and Peta, Antonio and Cheryl got scores of straight 7s for an overall total of 28/40 points. They were also declared safe at the end of the episode.

Then, when Dancing With the Stars came back from another commercial break, it was the fifth couple’s chance to shine in the spotlight. Duck Dynasty‘s Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas danced an incredible Rumba to Rihanna’s song, Diamonds. They ROCKED IT OUT! Carrie Ann gave them a 9, Pitbull scored them higher with a 10, and Bruno and Julianne Hough gave them 8s. for an overall total score of 35/40 points. With that score, they were easily declared safe at the end of the episode.

The sixth couple to perform on Dancing With the Stars on ABC was Lea Thompson and her dance partner, Artem Chigvintsev. They danced a Salsa dance to Sexy People (The Fiat Song) by Ariana Grande (featuring Pitbull). They were pretty awesome, and the four judges gave them scores of straight 8s, for a total of 32/40 points overall.

The seventh couple of the evening on Dancing With the Stars was Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater. They danced an Argentine Tango to Give Me Everything by Pitbull (featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer). They actually did a pretty good job tonight, and Waltrip really stepped up his game. The judges gave them two 7s and two 8s, for an overall total of 30/40 points, making them safe for this week.

Bethany Mota and Derek Hough were the eighth couple to perform on Dancing With the Stars. They danced an AMAZING Tango to Chromeo’s hit, Jealous (I Ain’t with It). The audience loved it, the judges loved it — it was arguably the best performance of the episode. The judges gave them scores of straight 9s, for a total of 36/40 points, putting them in the lead for tonight. They were, needless to say, also declared to be safe at the end of the episode.

Finally, the ninth couple of the evening on Dancing With the Stars was Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson. They have been great in past episodes; would they shine tonight, also? The answer was soon apparent — YES! They performed a Salsa to Booty by the marvelous singer, Jennifer Lopez (featuring Pitbull). The judges and audience loved the dance so much, that the couple received three 10s and one 9, for a total of 39/40 combined points! They had the highest score of the show, and were also declared safe.

Who was eliminated at the end of this Dancing With the Stars episode, Pitbull Night? It was not the couple who received the lowest score of the evening. That was a tie between Tommy and Peta and Antonio and Cheryl, with both of these couples receiving total scores from the judges of 28/40 points.

At the end of Dancing With the Stars, Janel Parrish and Val were the final couple to be called safe for this week, though the judges had given them a pretty good combined point total of 33/40 points. The celebrity eliminated tonight was…perhaps surprisingly…Jonathan Bennett. Though he and his pro dance partner, Allison Holker, did great tonight and got scores from the judges of 32/40 points total, they were eliminated. Many people thought that they might go all the way and win the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Be sure to tune in next Monday to find out who gets sent home next!
