After the questionable death of an elderly patient was investigated by the authorities, Daniela Poggiali, a nurse at an Italian hospital in Lugo, was arrested for murder.
An excessive amount of potassium chloride was found in the blood samples taken from 78-year-old Rosa Calderoni. Excess potassium can cause heart failure.
38 other suspicious deaths are now under investigation.
Other hospitals believe that she killed Ms. Calderoni because she and her relatives were annoying. Another said that Daniela gave large doses of laxatives to some patients before the end of her shift to make nurses have a more difficult time on their shifts.
