Just after 7:30 pm Pacific Time (2:30 am local time), an earthquake shook parts of Chile in the Valparaiso region. About 83 kilometers West Southwest of San Antonio at a depth of 19 kilometers, a seismic event of a magnitude of 4.1 hit the area. This was a typical moderate depth quake of the type that typically occur in this region. Tectonic activity is fairly common in this region where there is a convergence of the South American arc and the Panama fracture zone. Damage was limited in residential areas.
