The Great American Beer Festival was held on Thursday October 2 through Saturday October 4 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The three-day-long festival was a chance to taste and savor over 3,500 of the best beers brewed in America. Judges awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in many categories. Colorado and Texas beers took many of the medals, but excellent beers from several other states also won medals.
Over 5,500 different beers from over 1,300 breweries all around the United States submitted beers in the 90 different categories at the annual Great American Beer Festival. The beers were then judged in a blind taste testing by brewing industry professionals. The winners were given medals in a ceremony on Saturday.

The Large Brewing Company of the Year Award was taken home by the AC Golden Brewing Company, of Golden, Colorado, according to an article in Denver Business Journal. Also, 36 state beer makers from Colorado, according to the same article, won 40 awards at the Great American Beer Festival, which was a beer lover’s dream come true.
When it came to the Texas beers at the Great American Beer Festival, according to a blog called austin360, Texas breweries and beerpubs earned a total of 16 gold, silver and bronze medals. For example, in the category of Imperial Stout Beers, Armadillo’s Quakertown Stout took gold at the Great American Beer Festival. Also, according to the blog, Dallas’ Community Beer Company earned two awards, a gold medal for Public Ale in the extra special bitter category and a silver medal for it beer, Ascension, in the Coffee Beer category.
The official site of the Great American Beer Festival mentions that 2012 Great Scot! from Peticolas Brewing Company of Texas, earned a gold medal in the Aged Beer category. Canteen Brewhouse in New Mexico won the silver medal for its beer Saint Bob’s Imperial Stout ’07 and Brother Dewey’s Date Night from Arizona’s College Street Brewhouse & Pub won the bronze medal this year.
The Canteen Brewhouse also took home a gold medal, according to the Great American Beer Festival site, in the American-Style Amber/Red Ale category for its beer, Dougie Style Amber Ale. Amber Waves Ale from the Capitol City Brewing Company of Virginia won the silver medal and Rocco Red Ale from Bootlegger’s Brewery of California earned the bronze.
According to a report by 9NEWS.com, Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis won both gold and silver medals in the category of barrel-aged strong beers. The name of the beer that won the silver medal, the article stated, had the unusual and somewhat creepy name of Batch 666: Sympathy for the Devil, while the beer that won the gold medal was called Lonesome Dove, after the Larry McMurty novel of the same name.
