‘How to Get Away With Murder’: Nine Words [Review]

How to Get Away With Murder
How to Get Away With Murder aired another killer offering on Thursday, October 16 on ABC with Episode 4 of Season 1 entitled “Let’s Get Scooping,” in which nine words were uttered by Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) that promised jaw-dropping results. The 10 p.m. drama has shocked and awed viewers since its premiere episode in September.

This latest offering from the serial drama was no different. In Episode 4 of How to Get Away With Murder, Annalise and her law students uncovered a shocking truth while investigating the case of Marren Trudeau, who was played by actress Elizabeth Perkins of Weeds fame. The case of the week featured Perkins as a founder and CEO of a major brokerage firm, who had recently been accused of insider trading. Meanwhile, Wes (Alfred Enoch) discovered a cell phone hidden by Rebecca (Katie Findlay) in his bathroom whose contents revealed an unsettling clue in the Lila Stangard (Megan West) murder case.

This week’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder found Annalise back in court arguing to have Rebecca’s confession thrown out. The judge is dismissive of Professor Keating’s argument and he sets Rebecca’s bail at $1 million. Rebecca meets with Annalise and Bonnie (Liza Weil) afterwards and she divulged that she did not kill Lila. Moreover, she explained the reason she confessed to the crime was because Wes was correct and Griffin was trying to pin it on her. When Annalise learned of Wes’ antics, she summoned him to her office and screamed bloody murder at him. Furthermore, she claimed it was his fault Rebecca confessed in the first place. After their confrontation, she promptly removed Wes from the case and announced to everyone he was not allowed any contact with her.

As for How to Get Away With Murder‘s case of the week, Annalise took her students to meet with her new client, who has been arrested and charged with insider trading. Perkins’ Marren Trudeau is a self-made billionaire who owns her own stock exchange firm. They headed over to Trudeau’s office, which is being raided by the FBI. The ballsy stockbroker took the FBI’s search warrant and lit it on fire. After doing so, she claimed to be innocent and said she had not broken any laws. The FBI agent produced his laptop and claimed that she received inside stock trade information from Edson Pharmaceuticals. Moreover, they apparently have a tape of her having sex with the company’s CEO, Elias Edson (Jeff L. Williams). Marren does not deny making the sex tape and insisted she did not buy any stock from Edson. Annalise pointed out that the purchase was made from her log-in. When Trudeau claimed she was hacked, Annalise promised they would determine the source of the stock purchase.

As previewed by last week’s installment, the discovered cell phone contained a very revealing and incriminating photo of Sam Keating (Tom Verica), who was Lila’s law professor, Annalise’s husband, and the other murder victim whose demise is being detailed over the course of the season. As for the nine words uttered by Annalise that would shock and awe the audience, it turned out they were “what’s your penis doing on a dead girl’s phone?” Those nine words not only shocked viewers, but closed out the episode, and judging from the preview for next week’s How to Get Away With Murder, the result of those words could be explosive. Was Sam Keating having an affair with Lila Stangard or is he just another Anthony Weiner wannabe? Was Sam involved in Lila’s murder or is he being set up? Will the fallout from Annalise’s nine words lead to Sam’s demise? Is this all part of Annalise’s elaborate plan of How to Get Away With Murder? Tune in and find out as How to Get Away With Murder broadcast new episodes on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. EST on ABC, as well as posts aired episodes online for viewing at abc.go.com.
