Jimmy Fallon, the host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, had some fantastic guests this Wednesday. His first guest was Ben Affleck’s wife, the beautiful actress Jennifer Garner from the movie Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good Very Bad Day. His second guest was comedian John Mulaney. Later in the show, Fallon played Catchphrase with Garner, Mulaney, and Ahmir-Khalib “Questlove” Thompson. Also, his musical guest was Lady Antebellum and he had on the Wallkill Mighty Mite Panthers.
Fallon began the Tonight Show by welcoming his audience to the show. They gave him a standing ovation. Then, he did his monologue. Some jokes from it follow!
“Here’s what people are talking about today. Romney spoke of Hillary Clinton as an ‘enabler’ of President Obama’s policies. Which would be great, if that wasn’t the very definition of what a Secretary of State does.”
“The Kansas City Royals won their first post-season game in 49 years against the As. Or, as the As put it, ‘we’ll never be Royals.’ A little Lorde joke,” he said.
“A new survey has predicted that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be the favorite Halloween costume this year. The least favorite will be Slutty Ebola Virus.”
“Tomorrow night, from the New York Yankees, the captain himself, Derek Jeter will be here! And, musical guest 5 Seconds of Summer!” Jimmy Fallon said.
Fallon revealed that on Monday night, he and will.i.am got together and have recorded a song together that everyone will get to hear. It should be great!
He then mentioned who tonight’s guests would be, and he said that he would look into the “Audience Suggestion Box.”
“Hey, Jimmy — I love that app that makes you look bald! You should really try it out! It looked pretty cool. Then, he tried it out on Questlove and James Posey — Posey, of course, was already bald, so he ended up getting hair.
Hey, Jimmy — we’re learning about animals in our high school biology class. How many animals can you name?” Fallon said that he could name a few, but then had someone out on the streets of New York asking people to name animals. One person said “Grape.” The he added “I was thinking of Grape Ape.”
“Jimmy, I love Simon & Garfunkel, but I really love Black Simon & Garfunkel. Can you have them on?”
Fallon had them on! They were really Questlove and “Captain” Kirk Douglas from The Roots. The sang Shake It Off by Taylor Swift — they were uber AMAZING!
Then, Jimmy Fallon showed a video clip of the Wallkill Mighty Mites trying to break through a papper banner, but they could not do it. He had them on the show, to get a measure of redemption. They broke through this time, and confetti came down from the ceiling. One of the kids gave Jimmy Fallon a Mighty Mite jersey to wear.
Back from a commercial break, Jimmy Fallon introduced his first guest of the Tonight Show, actress Jennifer Garner. “Our first guest today is a Golden Globe actress who right now is starring in two different films Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No-Good Bad Day opens on October 10.”
“Ben told me your son is obsessed with me,” Jimmy said.
“You’re like a member of our family,” Jennifer said.
“I think I am a member of your family. I have Ben’s cold,” jimmy said.
“How’d you get Ben’s cold?”
“Probably touching his hand,” Jimmy Fallon answered.
Jennifer said that all of her kids had been sick with something or other every day but two this past month. “You could get ‘The Call’ from school. ‘Your daughter has the very common but treatable problem of having lice.'”
Jenifer then talked to Jimmy about having had lice when she was a girl, also, and about a “Lice Lady” coming to her house with a comb and special stuff she had to put on her hair to get rid of the lice.
Jennifer enthusiastically talked about her family and taking one of her kids to a party. “The first person I saw was George Clooney. I walked up to him and talked with him, and people could see he was smelling me. I think he didn’t invite us to his wedding because he didn’t want ‘licey hair.'”
Jimmy Fallon talked about Men, Women and Children and the Alexander movie with Jennifer Garner. She said that the first movie explored different relationships between men, women, children and “s-e-x.” “My daughter is the most put-together person in the film — so, ‘control freaks’ win!” she said; then, Fallon showed a clip from the movie. Before the show went to a break, on the screen was the hashtag #Fallsongs.
Back from the commercial break, Jimmy, Jennifer, Questlove and Mulaney played Catchphrase. John pressed start and got his first clue, “catfish.” Questlove did not get it. Jennifer got Fallon to say “Duck, Duck, Goose.”
“Mullet” and “Matthew McConaughey” were then guessed correctly. Probably not coincidentally, Jennifer Garner starred with McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club. Then, John got Questlove to say “Puppy love” and Jennifer got Fallon to say “Cookie Monster.” Fallon could not get Garner to say “Stiff upper lip” until the time was almost out, but she finally said it, and their team won.
Back from another break, Jimmy Fallon introduced John Mulaney, who will be starring in his own comedy series on Fox. Mulaney was a writer for Saturday Night Live. He told Fallon that he went on the road as a comedian when he was just 19. “I did stand-up comedy in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in a campground. In front of a beer truck. I got to the show and on the stage and the stage was a couple of 2x4s lying in the dirt.” He said one heckler told him “I think I speak for everyone here when I say people would appreciate silence more than the sound of your voice.”
Then, he and Jimmy Fallon spoke about his new show, Mulaney. Martin Short will be on it. Fallon showed a clip of the show, in which he tried to get a priest to lie about his having been in church. The priest told him “no” and then Mulaney tried to bribe him, but that did not work, either.
Lady Antebellum was the musical guest. They performed after another commercial break on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Our next guest has had four consecutive albums chart on the country music charts. from their album 747, here is Hey, Bartender by Lady Antebellum!” Fallon said.
It was a pretty cool song. Lady Antebellum is one of today’s premiere country music groups and they gave a fantastic performance of Hey, Bartender. The audience really loved it, applauding enthusiastically and cheering as they finished singing and performing.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was terrific this “Hump Day,” as usual! Fallon’s guests were actress Jennifer Garner, who talked to Jimmy about her family and her two films that are out or will be out soon; comedian John Mulaney, promoting his new series on Fox, Mulaney; and, his musical guest was the great country band, Lady Antebellum! Also, Jimmy Fallon played the fun and entertaining game, Catchphrase, with Jennifer, John, and Questlove.
