Mama June Shannon Losing Custody of Honey Boo Boo?

There is a chance that “Mama June” Shannon might be having her custody of Alana Thompson AKA ‘Honey Boo Boo’ taken away. The funny family that became famous by their reality television show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which has now been removed from the air, just might be seeing their lives altered in even more drastic ways if the Georgia Division of Family and Children decides that Shannon is unfit to have custody of her three minor daughters.

The family services division wants to make sure the girls are safe from the man who Shannon’s oldest child Anna Cardwell, age 20, claimed was the person who abused her when she was just a young kid. Reports came to the surface last week that June was again dating Mark McDaniel. He was just recently released from jail where he was serving out a prison sentence due to the molestation of another child. However, Shannon continues to deny that she and McDaniel have rekindled any kind of relationship.

Susan Boatwright, who is a representative for the Family and Children Services Division in Georgia, explained that, because of privacy matters, she was unable to give a statement on whether or not the agency was examining Shannon or not. She did state that in cases similar to June’s, the whole occurrence would be looked at and also taken extremely seriously by the branch if they had been notified that a minor child was repeatedly in the company of a known sex offender.

She noted that when the Division of Family and Children received any kind of report that indicated a minor child was living around a person who was considered to be a sex abuse offender or who may have been convicted of the crime of molestation of a child, the department would take such a case very seriously and certain individuals would go out into the field and examine the parent’s proAtecting ability. Boatwright stated that with a case such as the Shannon family is allegedly going through, child services would check to determine if the reports that have described were true or not and then the next step would be to figure out just how safe or not the minor children happen to be in their living situation.

She continued with saying that if the parent is seen as being someone who is capable of handling the circumstances and is able to offer protection for the children from the pedophile that is in question, then the children are left in the home. If that is not the case, child services looks to nearby relatives in order to attempt to try and find a safe home for the kids.

It was just last month that Shannon broke up with Alana’s father Mike Thompson, AKA “Sugar Bear.” That in turn meant Shannon was the main caregiver for her three minor daughters. Cardwell publicized that after she was molested by McDaniel, she left Shannon’s house and went to live with an undisclosed relative.

Boatwright explained that young children can be more susceptible to abuse, but anyone who is under the age of 18 might be removed from the care of a parent if the child services division decides the home environment is not safe. Honey Boo Boo is 9 years old, and there was a recent photograph that emerged which showed McDaniel apparently touching her arm.

A usual child services examination can take between 30 and 45 days, exclaimed Boatwright. She also said that it was unfortunate but that just about every home most likely had a sex offender living nearby, so it came down to the parent to make sure to keep the child safe.
