Fans have been patiently waiting for some new Rihanna to release and now, thanks to a source leak, the Bajan beauty music may be set for a November debut. Following the pattern that Beyonce set into motion with the surprise release of her latest self-titled project, Rihanna fans’ may be expecting a surprise iTunes for the upcoming 8th studio album. Rumored to be named Lost Files, the information about the tracklisting and features was leaked to the public this past week.
Rihanna is not one to follow trends or just shelve out cookie-cutter hits when it comes to her music. The latest news of her unexpected album drop comes as a relative surprise, considering she has been so quiet about what fans can expect next. Exploring other options in 2014, Rihanna has remained anything but low-key. She will star in a new movie Home for 2015, became a fashion icon, posed with supermodels Naomi Campbell and Iman, covered several magazines, posed nude for French magazine Lui, smoked plenty of weed, awkwardly danced to Bobby Shmurda’s hit single, sung on hooks for two popular hits, toured with Eminem, launched a successful television show Styled to Rock, and released a new fragrance for men. The Bajan songstress has given no inkling to when she plans to top the charts again on a solo project.
It seems that Rihanna was on a brief hiatus from the music scene. Her relative silence on solo-projects further built anticipation for more. Though she remained quiet, her team did not hold the same policy. In a recent interview with behind-the-board, self-proclaimed hit-maker Yung Berg, he boasts that the two have been working to produce a new sound and some catchy singles to drop later this year. The minor slip of the tongue was later confirmed by a photo of an official Roc Nation document from a SpyGhana photo.
The photo, which also premiered on Envy the DJ’s website, shows multiple collaborations on the upcoming project. Femcee Nicki Minaj on Barz, G.O.O.D. Music affiliate and recent Ariana Grande boyfriend Big Sean on Pray For Life, Drake, and Eminem on Lost Files. The artists selected should come as no surprise. Nicki Minaj is having one of the strongest years in her career with her latest single Anaconda jumping to the top of the charts, and it will not be the first time the two West Indian beauties worked together (Raining Men and Fly). Rihanna could also be looking to recapture some of her chart-placing success of the past singles Take Care and What’s My Name by collaborating with Drake. Eminem and Rihanna have also worked on two successful singles and just finished a global tour. The only one that is a bit unexpected is the Big Sean and Rihanna collaboration. The two have only worked together on Kanye West’s All of the Lights (Remix), but their is no telling if they were both physically in the studio when recording. From the looks of the features, it seems that Rihanna is going for a more urban/hip-hop sound this time around.
It has been almost two years since Rihanna’s Unapologetic album topped the iTunes chart and this latest news could not have come at a better time for fans all over. Though the project could still be revised and changed, the 14-track listing is definitely a buzz worthy moment for the young starlet and is rumored for a surprise drop November 25th.
