The crossover for The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will reportedly involve Nina Dobrev. It is leaving many to wonder whether season six will really be the last for her character Elena, as it potentially opens the door for her to jump to the spin off show instead.
Guardian Liberty Voice previously reported that Dobrev was considering leaving the main show due to her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder’s relationship with Nikki Reed. The two are regularly seen on set, and it is off-putting and upsetting for the young actress. However, there were also rumors that season six would be the last for the show anyway, which some fans seem to believe it should be.
During all this, executive producer for both shows, Julie Plec, confirmed that there would be a crossover episode. While many expected Alaric, considering he has just returned from the dead, she announced that it would not be the obvious. Now it appears that it will be Dobrev making her way to New Orleans.
Rather than as her caring character Elena, the 25-year-old will be there as a doppelganger. Katherine Pierce is already dead, and there seems to be no plans to bring her back. Instead, she will come back as the Original Doppelganger, Tatia. She was mentioned back in season three and then seemed to be forgotten about.
It will be interesting to see how The Vampire Diaries and The Originals crossover with Dobrev will work. All doppelgangers were thought to be dead considering the travellers needed just one of both sets of doppelgangers (Elena and Stefan) alive. Tatia was believed to have died a long time ago at the hands of Esther Mikelson, so could it be that she will be brought back from the dead?
There is the possibility that she will be used in flashbacks for characters Elijah and Klaus. The two were both in love with her, which seems to be a recurring thing for the doppelgangers. Stefan and Damon both fell in love with Katherine and Elena.
The writers wanted to find the most plausible reason for a crossover. In season one, it was to bring Tyler back for revenge to close off his storyline. However, now there seems to be no loose ends. One option would be to bring Alaric, and another to bring in Caroline. The writers have decided to do something different, rather than aim for the views. They created a storyline that would require a new, although previously mentioned character. It requires Tatia in the storyline for one reason or another.
It makes more sense to keep The Vampire Diaries cast as they are away from The Originals. Season two of the spin off is focusing more on family, and Klaus would want to keep as many people out of that as possible. The writers also agreed that there is something special about bringing in the Original Doppelganger into the mix, especially when it involves Klaus and Elijah against each other. The episode airs on November 3.
Now there are questions over whether this is the next move for the 25-year-old actress. It is possible that involving Dobrev in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals crossover will make space for her to join the spin off cast after the end of season six of the main show.
