Taylor Swift Will Debut Second ‘1989’ Single

Superstar Taylor Swift has taken the music industry by storm with the release of her new album 1989 and the singer is set to debut the second single from the record. The star is slated to perform the song “Blank Space” at the American Music Awards.

Swift received a huge amount of praise and positive reception from both fans and critics alike for the album’s first single “Shake It Off” released earlier this summer. Followers of the singer made a note that the star who was formerly known as a twangy country belle has transitioned over fully to the world of pop music. Not a single banjo chord was heard in “Shake It Off” and the song’s video featured a number of contemporary dance styles including hip-hop and a comedic take on twerking.

Swift broke records this past weekend when the sales for 1989 sky-rocketed like crazy. The record sold over 1.3 million copies within the first week, the most sold since 2002. That year, The Eminem Show by rapper Eminem garnered a sales total of 1.322 copies within the first week of its release. The official total for Swift’s sales in the debut week will be calculated and announced by SoundScan on Nov. 5. The singer has now surpassed the record of the female artist with the most sales of an album in its first week of release. The one and only Britney Spears held the title up until this point.

The music star’s performance on the upcoming American Music Awards is one that is highly anticipated. Swift is one of the many top stars that will be seen belting their hearts out on stage that night. Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, Mary J. Blige, 5 Seconds of Summer, Lorde, Fergie, Sam Smith and One Direction are amongst the list of A-List talent that will be seen performing at the awards show. Azalea has reportedly received the most award nominations for the ceremony this year, garnering six in total. Katy Perry, John Legend and Pharrell Williams follow behind Azalea with five nominations each.

Another topic of interest regarding the American Music Awards is the fact that Swift will be in the company of a particular ex-boyfriend that has potential to stir up some controversy. One Direction singer Harry Styles will make an appearance with the popular boy band and one can only hope things remain civil between the two ex-lovers. Although Swift managed to pen quite a few passionate lyrics about the ups and downs in her relationship with Styles in her last album, Red, the singer is not known to cause unnecessary drama or scandals that draw the tabloids’ attention. One could most likely expect a dirty look or two from the blond bombshell though.

The debut of Taylor Swift’s new single from her hit album 1989 is one that will have her followers on the edge of their seats and will be able to keep the star in the Hollywood limelight for a good long while. The singer will perform “Blank Space” at the American Music Awards on Nov. 23, broadcast live on ABC.
